Ending

I really enjoyed all the reviews posted on this book. I found it an intriguing read but unfortunately don't know any one who has read it to discuss it with. Would love to get people's thoughts on the ending of the book. Was his mission to find and kill Dr Stiles all along (repressed of course)and was it a military operation? Would love to hear other's ideas on this...
