Old Books are Actually Really Hard to Understand

The only older books I've read were Lord of the Rings and Anne of Green Gables, and even those aren't extremely old. But I agree with Hannah, I think it all depends on writing style and the read. I didn't find Lord of the Rings too difficult, but my parents didn't even get through them! I have Jane Eyre and from when I flipped through it, the language seems pretty old, so I'm not sure if it'll be hard to understand at all; guess I'll see.
