I did not like the ending at all! Whatever becomes of Perrine? Does the bennett family move and change names? How can the Catholic priest - Seamus - be Bennett's grandfather (Catholic priests do not marry, nor do they father children!)

I do not believe that becoming a priest is a career option after one has been married. Could be wrong....
You are permitted to become a priest or a nun after your spouse dies because you are married until death do you part. Once death, the bonds of marriage are severed, thereby allowing you to take the vows of the religious life. We know several nuns that are actually mothers/grandmothers because they went into the convent after their spouse died and their kids were grown. There are some allowances for married Catholic Priests.
