Haymitch is portrayed as a deceitful, manipulative drunk, but he is also a great strategist and does his best to look out for Katniss and Peeta.

What do you think? Good guy or bad guy? Do you hate him or love him?

Kathryn (kdrury) | 112 comments I think that he is a complicated character. He's suffered by being the lone winner of the game in their region as he's been separated from the rest of the community because of this. Clearly he has skills that can help Katniss to win so you can't hate him. However, he makes it difficult for readers to love him either.

Karen Leonard (karen1278) | 428 comments Whatever happened in the games Haymitch took part in has caused Haymitch to "take to the bottle" . He needs to escape his reality. Parts of his life are inexuseable and then we find he has been kind to someone. I like him.

Anna (iudita) | 450 comments Actually I love Haymitch. I know he is a despicable drunk but when the chips are down, he shows us that he is an intelligent guy with the heart of a lion. He was my favourtie character.

Karen Leonard (karen1278) | 428 comments He is loyal; he's got their back. I'd want Haymitch on my side .
