What theme in 'Of Mice and Men' really grabbed you? Why?

The theme of friendship was really powerful in this book. George probably could have got on ok in the harsh world they lived in but he felt responsible for Lennie and was fiercely loyal to him.

I would have to agree. I think the theme of friendship and loyalty was the most important theme in the Novel. It displayed the lengths that people will go to when they love someone. I think that Lennie had gone to a level beyond a friend to George and became a brother. This same theme is still realistic today as you often will see cases on the news of family members or friends that have helped a loved one with a terminal illness to pass on. They are going to extreme lengths even when they know the consequences of their actions.

I think a more interesting question is then posed to us at the end of the novel and can be found discussed on this site. What happens to George at the end of the novel? I have always thought that he would pretend that he had captured and killed Lennie and then continued to live the same way he has always had however never attaining the American Dream.
