Vices and Virtues RP discussion

Premise & Discussion
This is a brilliant concept for an RP, I can't wait to start. I do have a question: So, let's take for example, the Temperance Virtue. The only "power" of the Temperance virtue is that they are the epitome of temperance? I guess I don't understand what the power is, exactly.
I guess I should probably elaborate on those ovo
So. Let's say you have a character named... I dunno. Ben-- and you decide that he is best suited to be the Lesser Virtue of Justice. Ben has two abilities: Pyrokinesis and Cryokinesis (fire and ice).
His ring, however, has a completely different ability: the power to force people to tell the truth. That's just an example though-- I'll be coming up with specific powers for the rings soon (with input, of course!)
Back to Ben. He can put on his (and ONLY his) ring whenever he likes, but I'm debating on whether or not people can freely take them off (as I believe that you couldn't in the old RP.) However, when he wears his ring, he is unable to use either of his old abilities. To him, it might feel as if nothing happens when he makes the old motions-- or, perhaps, it feels like his old powers are still there, but he is somehow blocked from using them.
I'm thinking of adding another feature to the rings: while you're wearing your ring, you are able to communicate freely with anyone else that is wearing a ring from the same set-- or if their virtues (or vices) are connected. So, for instance, Ben could be wearing his ring and be able to talk with Nina, (Love) and Hank (Mercy) while they are also wearing their rings, but at the same time, he'd be able to talk with Ron, the Virtue of Diligence.
I have to figure out which Lesser Virtues are most like one of the Virtues (and the same for Vices) to make the individual pairs work out, or I could just leave it with the sets of seven. I'm not sure about that. But I hope that this analogy has helped you understand what I was trying to explain!

I personally think it would be interesting if each Lesser Virtue was paired with one Virtue, and each Lesser Vice with one Vice. And that explanation does help.
As do I. I just have to figure out which would correspond to which. I'm glad the explanation helped uwu When I was initially typing up the description, I didn't want to make it too long.
Should I make different lists for which characters are which virtues, and then which rings get which abilities? I think I should, instead of cramming it all into one list... .=.
Maybe a separate post for each category? Or two, just for the umbrella of vices and umbrella of virtues?

Different lists would help, I think. So people don't mess up when they make their characters.
Separate posts would be better, since you could always add more and not worry about running out of space or making it too long.

So, the characters can have any regular power that they want? Thanks for the clarifications. I have a solid idea for a character now.
uwu thank you for the input, alpha~
Characters can have any power they want, yes. I'll be checking to make sure that they're reasonable (or that they're balanced by weaknesses). I'm excited to see what you all come up with! :3

Haha, I still have to work on Anastasia. And Lily Grace. Oh jeez. I don't know if I'll include Lily, or if I'll maybe change her character design completely... Maybe make her into a lesser vice... ehehehehehe.
Don't forget to make vices too, guys uwu

Not sure. I have to figure out what kind of role this "Figure Behind the Curtain" is going to play, and who they actually are .=. Help?
So. First of all. The Rings. They're a method of identification between the vices and virtues. Not only are they distinguishable, but they're kind of like beacons to the people on their "teams" (vices/virtues), allowing them to communicate through their sets of 7, as well as whichever lesser/major vice/virtue they're connected to.
For one plot, I was thinking something like a giant scavenger hunt. They have to collect various items of power that will aide them in defeating the other side, with hints provided courtesy of the FBC. There would (of course) be run-ins with the opposing side, leading to fights and the such. And there could also be vices or virtues that choose to operate alone, and perhaps try sabotaging the other team.
There are, of course, other plots that we could have. And sub-plots. Maybe some kind of tug of war, with more flexible members switching sides. I dunno. It's really wherever we want to go, but I want to have some kind of main point where everyone finally gets their rings and something big happens.

I like the scavenger hunt idea, it makes me think about when Harry, Hermione, and Ron are looking for the Horcruxes.
So perhaps the FBtC leaves hints for those who don't have their rings yet? Who all has their rings? The older people, perhaps?
In the last RP, Shen and Celine were handing the rings out to the Virtues. The Sins didn't have rings.
LB and I planned out Azrael and Jennifer's history, and there, Azrael gave Jennifer her ring personally. I was thinking of having him as some kind of closer worker for the FBtC, and that there would be a subsequent counterpart for the Vices that worked closely with the FBtC. Neither of them know who this person is (and neither do I, haha!) but they're neutral on this entire thing.
Hints for finding Rings... What do you think those would look like?

Could they apply to the opposites? The hints could be written in different ways, but they appeal to the characters with opposite vices/virtues. For example, Charity and Greed could find a fifty dollar bill in the street. Based on where each of them would go (Greed to the bank, Charity to the homeless shelter or wherever) that's where the clue would be hidden.
Whenever someone helps me figure out how to characterize the FBtC .=. Also, how the rings will be distributed... Or rather, where they'd be located.
LBSinger wrote: "I think the FBtC should be a completely neutral character."Agreed. ...Male, maybe? Immortal, I'd say. Perhaps alive since the beginning of humanity?
Maybe the FBtC is someone who originally had all those qualities (sins/virtues) in them, a long, long, long time ago, and then they 'purged' themself of all of them but setting them on different people? Random idea o.o
Yes, probably Male and definitely around since the beginning of the universe. Alpha's idea is interesting. Don't know if it matters but I like it lol.
FBtC was going to be neutral from the beginning... And immortal is a given. What is his purpose for all this though? Hmm... I'll brainstorm that, but I also like Alpha's idea.
How would he go about giving out the rings? Azrael and Jennifer at least will have their rings with the RP starts.

My viewing on this would be that gradually the forces of Heaven and Hell have been in deadlock battle since the beginning of time. The FBtC could the the original entity that began the creation of the universe. He was conceived with all the qualities of the vices and virtues. The FBtC decided that having all these conflicting emotions was tearing the universe apart so to gain clarity he purged himself of all these qualities and separated their place of origin into two distinct places: Heaven and Hell. In doing so he created two caretakers that embodied the 14 virtues or vices to oversee the good and evil in the universe. I will converse over my interpretation of the rings if anyone likes this theory.
Kalli would probably have her ring, given her age. Maybe she's had it for so long now that she can't remember how she got it?

Sounds good to me.
Sounds good to me.
As for what his purpose would be, maybe he views them all with a vague, detached sort of semi-fondness? Since they're kind of his creations.
In the same respect, I don't think any of them would have the will to directly defy him, since he's their creator. Of course, he's giving them free reign, for whatever reason.
Your idea seems cool, Insom. What about the rings?

And I agree with Inny's idea. But where are we gonna go from there? In the last rp, I liked how the rings were handed out, but that would be difficult because one person (or two) would be in charge of that. They wouldhave to forego their own character-rping fun to individually hand out rings to ALL characters, and in real life that could take months. I say all the characters have been mailed their rings. That should be everyone's first post, receiving their ring via mail. Humanity should be like the Gamekeeper of the Vices/Virtues. Like the messenger of the gods. He sent the rings. Why? .... I don't know yet.
They get mailed their rings? Wouldn't it be extremely easy for someone to steal it while it's in the postal system?
(I was crying at the humanity representation)
He sent the rings, but I feel like he wouldn't send it via post. If anything, Anastasia would give them one of the rings then lmao! (funny bc she's a messenger for Hermes)
I feel like he would put them in locations that only the vices/virtues would find. In Azrael's case, he found it inside the body of one of his victims ovo

........ I guess that's true.AH!!! Little pixies deliver them!!!!!
(Hey, we've got demonsand werewolves, why not pixies? They can be Humanity's servants).
Good night, Dawn c:
As for the delivering of the rings, I agree with LB that normal mail wouldn't much make sense. I love the idea that only the vice/virtue to whom the ring belongs are able to find it. It could be just gut instinct leading them to their ring, maybe dreams as well.

Do their powers have to correspond with the rings they will wear, sort of like the ring is paired with the individual because their powers correspond to the rings core or some such?. or example if there is a primary and secondary ability such as say, perception of truth and barriers of purity (meaning those who are impure may not advance beyond a barrier) could be pre-existing powers of an individual chosen by the ring of justice. Did I get that completely wrong?:pI was sort of thinking of the Green Lantern corps when I thought of that, sort of how the recipient of the ring has to have an Affinity with the ring's heartstone, and the wearers known as Exemplars (for the virtues) or Malefactors (for the vices)and when the wearer dies perhaps the rings could gravitate towards another Affinitus.
If we are setting the rp in the modern day, might the wearers just be normal humans, who are perhaps unknowing reincarnations of the first recipients of the rings?
Okay. So. The ability the ring grants may not have anything to do with the wearer. In fact, I'm planning on giving people abilities that have nothing to do with whatever they had before.
I... kind of follow your example, Woolfie. Basically, the rings resonate with whoever has the title of a specific vice or virtue. The rings will find their owners one way or another, and will pretty much "follow" that owner until the title passes on. Nobody else can physically wear the ring. Maybe on chains, but never on their fingers.
Also, rings, once put on, can only be removed by another person from the set ^^ That way, rings can't be stolen via foul play~
Oh. And "sets". When Greed and Lust both have their rings on, they can communicate through telepathy (when they're willing). Faith and Mercy, on their own "closed loop", can as well. If Hate, Corruption, Cruelty, and Deception all happen to be open and have their rings on, they could totes chat. All seven of the Lesser Virtues could also be talking. You can't force your way into the head of another, but you can broadcast your thoughts to whoever is wearing a ring from your set.
Also, I think it'll also apply to main/lesser pairs. So, Greed could hear something that Corruption broadcasts, and Faith could hear something from Chastity. Make sense?

Yeah I had thought of something along the lines of Them behind the curtain giving the original rings to the Exemplars, but somewhere along the way the Malefactors were empowered by...someone:pBut that would be too cliched good vs evil, makes sense for the virtues and the vices be aspects of a singular being who endows the earth with Guardians and Malignants so that the balance is placed in the hands of mankind to use the gifts they are endowed fittingly to decide their fate.

Welcome to a world where fear and fantasy collide.
In the present day, there exist people with certain... qualities. They live their daily lives as they see fit. Some pretend to be normal. Some lurk in the shadows. Some exert their influence to benefit human kind. Others do not have such benevolent intentions.
There exist two forces in this world: good and evil. One is represented by seven avatars-- the virtues. The other, vices.
Chastity. Temperance. Charity. Diligence. Patience. Kindness. Humility.
Lust. Gluttony. Greed. Sloth. Wrath. Envy. Pride.
There exist branches of these vices and virtues, feeding power to their origin, though they are lesser known. These fourteen main forces vie for control of the earth and its people, furthering their own goals through the use of their own power as well as the aide of a certain entity, only referred to as the Figure Behind the Curtain.
Each of the vices and virtues are gifted with their inherent talents. In exchange for sacrificing these abilities, however, they are offered the opportunity to exchange their ability for something entirely different-- which is accessible through a ring that was apparently crafted by the Figure themselves.
As forces collide and balances shift, who will reign victorious?
