Allegiant was different from the first two in just about every way. It was not written well, for a start (but a good editor should have been able to fix up the problems with the wording and style) and the story itself didn't seem to work. The explanation of what had been happening and the new world we were in because of that didn't engage me as the Divergent world had.
Then there were the pointless deaths. While there had been deaths in the other two books, those deaths seemed to have a point. The deaths in this book seemed to be designed simply to bring misery to other characters in the story. The ending added to this.
And unfortunately, when the final installment in a series is bad, it does tend to colour your impression of the others.
