Chrizette | 34 comments I just need to vent (hope this is the right folder) - I have searched the audible website for hours and have resigned myself to the fact that there is no technical option left.

I downloaded my audio book from audible but am unable to find anything I own that is recognized by the software! Not even my smartphone or my MP3 player. The only option left is listening to the book on my computer - for 11 hours! Don't know how practical that is going to be!

I am feeling very frustrated - I am glad that I did not sign up for membership yet!

Dee (austhokie) | 1947 comments What kind of smartphone or MP3 player do you have? There are different formats for different devices

Becky (httpsbeckylindrooswordpresscom) | 16 comments I would recommend you call Audible - they are VERY helpful. Their phone number is on the "Contact Us" page. There's a link at the bottom of the home page.

Emily Klein | 26 comments Call audible they will help you. If you are attempting to use windows devices that may explain some of your problems. The windows app does not work and the desktop sometimes has problems actually a lot.

Chrizette | 34 comments Let me start by saying that I am a bit of a techno dummy. So please forgive me if I understood something incorrectly.

Dee, I have a Blackberry Z10 with the problem being that it seems that you have to download an application which then enables you to download the book directly (from your phone) - I think I understood it correctly :)

My phone contract does not support that much data every month (I live in South Africa and our cellphone contracts have a certain amount of data usage every month - mine being only about 250mb for the whole month). If I could transfer the file via an usb cable . . .

My MP3 player is a Sansui. I think the brand is a bit less known. I plugged in the player on my laptop but the Audible Manager program did not recognize it (I tried a few options).

Becky, Emily, I have thought about emailing them but have found quite a few comments while googling saying that they do not support all devices and have resigned myself to that fact.

Jeanie | 4024 comments I had a similar problem trying to use an MP3 player that wasn't supported by Audible. Eventually I bought a Sansa Clip and there were no problems loading it.

I use my computer to listen a lot of the time. There's no worry about running out of battery while it's plugged in and where I have it placed allows me to hear it in most rooms. I recently received a wireless speaker for my birthday which expands the range where I can hear it. I get tired of earphones so I actually enjoy the free-range listening experience. If playing the books aloud would inconvenience others, there are wireless headphones.

HJ I don't know if it's possible for you to buy an iPod Touch second-hand - I did that and it's perfect for Audible ebooks because the Audible app for the iPod allows you to download over wi-fi and it's very simple. It has to be an iPod Touch 3rd generation or later. Or an old iPhone, 3GS or later, if they're easier to get. You don't need a phone contract, you're just using it as a storage device via wi-fi.

I find that it's best to have a piece of equipment dedicated to audiobooks because then you have lots of space to download the books. That said, the way Audible works you don't have to download any more than the one(s) you want to listen to straight away - the rest stay in your library in the Cloud.

I don't think there is a Blackberry app any more - I looked for one and I think I found that it had been discontinued a while ago but the two technologies simply weren't compatible.

Sandi (sandikal) | 420 comments Can you download the app to you phone via wifi? If you can, then you can also download the book via the app using wifi. I believe you can go into the app settings an set it to only update and download using wifi. If you can do all this, then you won't be using your data allowance.

Does Audible even have an app for Blackberry?

Kristie | 2212 comments I have your same Blackberry as my work phone, and there are very few apps. I'm pretty sure Audible no longer has a Blackberry app.

I've used iPods and Sansas, and while I know a lot of people like the Sansa, I had a bad experience so would recommend an iPod. If you don't want to spend the money on a Touch, I used Nanos for years and they worked perfectly well.

Chrizette | 34 comments What about Kindles? Amazon is a part of Audible - are all their kindles compatible??

How did you download to a Nano? I love the look of them but I didn't think you could get the Audible app on them.

I wanted to download by Wi-fi direct to the device because downloading to my Macbook and then onto a device seems to be a bit complicated.

Only some of the Kindles have loudspeakers and headphone sockets. Paperwhites don't have audio. My old Kindle keyboard does, and I have used it for audiobooks (before I got my iPod) - best with headphone as speakers are very small. The Kindle Fires all do and the descriptions refer specifically to Audible audiobooks.

If you live in a country with Whispersync matching (i.e. not just the process they use to synchronise your audiobooks over all your devices), you can get some audiobooks v cheaply once you buy the book for Kindle. Unfortunately, we don't get that in the UK.

Chrizette | 34 comments Nope again - I have a Paperwhite . . . lol

message 14: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2212 comments When you purchase a book on Audible, you have the option to download the file to your computer (from the link in your Audible library). Once on your computer, that file can be put directly on your iPod.

I now use the Audible app and almost never re-listen to books, but I still download all the files to my computer, just on principle.

Vicki | 68 comments I have a 500 GB external hard drive that I down load all of my audio books to. I purchased it for exclusive audio content and love that I can disconnect it from the laptop when not using it. I have a Sansa and a Sansa clip that I purchased long before the first Kindle came out. I also have a Kindle now. It just depends on what I am doing which one I use. Most of the time I listen through Kindle with a small usb chargable speaker or earbud in one ear when home. When out it is one of the Sansas.

You might want to check with Amazon to see if it will play audio...I got my mother in law a paperwhite for christmas last year and am almost positive I downloaded some audio's to it...I may not be remembering right but it would be worth checking out

message 17: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1947 comments Paper whites don't have an audio on it

But you should be able to listen to audible on nano - transferring via the manage audible download and not the specific app
