Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments I came across this gem from Charlaine Harris's website.

Audible, the books-on-cd company, is making a big announcement today. There’s going to be an anthology of short stories set in the Sookieverse. But none of them will be written by me! They’ll be written by great writers who’ve been kind enough to tell me they enjoyed my work. My friend Toni L.P. Kelner is editing the stories, and I’m giving them a once-over, too. Here’s the link if you’d like to pre-order:

When Audible first approached me, I was skeptical about the idea. I’ve never read fanfic, and I thought that this might be too akin to fanfic; other people, writing about my characters? But when I mulled it over for a few months, I began to see the possibilities. After I had another talk with Audible, I felt more amenable to the idea, and the project gradually took shape.

When writers like MaryJanice Davidson and Seanan McGuire take part – plus some writers whose names I’m holding back for later – you know the end product will be entertaining.

The world being the way it is today, I can already hear the accusations begin to pelt me. “You’re just trying to milk the success of your books as long as you can!” “You’ll do anything for a buck!” “No one will buy this! It’s exploitation!”

All right, I’ll take that. Though it’s not my motivation, it’s one interpretation.
No, I won’t do anything for a buck. If that were the case, I’ll still be writing the Sookie novels, and I would have Eric end up with Sookie and magically allow them to have little vampire babies.
Okay. Don’t buy it. Fine with me.

So there you have it; a future project which I can just sit back and enjoy. And I hope some of you do, too. I look forward to releasing the names of the other writers involved, and I’ve already peeked at one or two of the stories . . . and I laughed out loud.

What do you think...will you be checking them out?????

I like the idea behind this, that some very well known authors will be essentially writing fanfic, giving us their take on this series. I also like Harris's thoughts, she knows she can't make everyone happy, so she is doing what she wants and thinks will be fun.

Alisa This is interesting. I was not one of the people all upset w/her for how the series ended. I was though, ready for the series to end when it did. I was over the magic of Sookie. I would most definately not be checking these out if Harris was writing them. It is interesting to see what they would be like with other author's writing them. I will probably at least check out Seanne McGuire cuz she is such a different type of writer than Harris and I'd like to see what she comes up with.

Carolyn F. I'm interested, I hope the writing is as good.

That is the big appeal for me too. It will be interesting if the author writes in their style/voice with the same characters or if they stay true to how Harris writes them.

Katie (skateanddonate) | 13 comments Nope.

Didn't like how it ended. Pissed at what she did to Eric. So her making a comment like "I would have Eric end up with Sookie" if I only wanted to make more money inflames my disgust.

Sara | 860 comments My interest in the Sookie series faded out halfway through the series. I didn't dislike it but I had other series/authors I found more interesting. However, Seanan McGuire is one of my favorite authors so I'll probably check it out.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments Did anyone check out the After Dead: What Came Next in the World of Sookie Stackhouse book? It has pages with literally one sentence about one or more characters and it's teeny tiny. Thank goodness I checked it out from the library and didn't buy it. I didn't even remember most of the characters.

I just read it last night. I liked it, mostly because I wondered about characters after series end, this lets us know. But with that said, I'm glad that I didn't pay money for it, not worth the price for the 20 minutes it took for me to read it.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 672 comments I would try it as the stories are written by others. I still have not read the last book and most likely won't. I did not like the last couple of books, to me everything went down hill after dead and gone, the story and the writing, and while CH has every right to write the story she wants, the way she wants too I too have the right not to read or give her my money. Okay rant over.....

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Its weird you know. I am not sure if I would check it out. I am not a fan of fanfic regardless of who is doing it.

I guess I am the odd man out but this is exactly why I ended up not caring for the series. It was like Sookie became different. When I read a series book I read because there is something about the character that I like and I want to know what happens with them. I do not mind them changing and evolving but it needs to stay true to who the character is. CH made some odd choices about who Sookie became and sadly to me it coincided with the television series not to mention the plots became paper thin.

Alisa I wonder what about this project would appeal to the other authors? Why they would want to write another's character? I also wonder if this will be a new trend we see.
