Dustin Milner J.K. Rowling is excellent at fully developing her characters. Every one of them was dynamic and felt real. That being said, I had a hard time getting through this book. I think it was the subject matter that didn't interest me. I don't know if was one of culture, me being from the U.S. and her setting being in the U.K. The book's titled story arc is unfamiliar to me and kept me at arm's length. It was like trying to watch the U.K. version of Shameless as opposed to the US version. I just didn't feel attached to the setting.

Kristen Sorrell | 20 comments I felt the same way. I feel like the characters were well-developed. It was a little bit harder to picture the setting, but I think I just flat out didn't like the characters in the book. They seemed like awful, petty people. I felt like I put up with a lot from the characters and waited a long time to get through the book. Then, the climax felt rushed. Despite this, hats off to J.K. Rowling for making me dislike them so much. I had a hard time sympathizing with anyone other than Krystal.
