Mandy Moody | 17 comments Hello, everyone! I'm hoping one of you will be able to help me :)
My daughter (11 and in 6th grade) has to read a biography this month for her book report. She can choose anyone she wants, and she's very interested in the Princes in the Tower (proud mommy!)
Any book suggestions that would be appropriate for an 11 year old? She's a very advanced reader, and I'm not so much worried about content as I am about how long the book is...she tends to lose interest in books she HAS to read, and shorter is better!
Thanks in advance!

Joan Szechtman | 401 comments What about Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey? It meets the relatively short criteria. Things that I particularly like about the book is that it shows how to do research in an engaging way and shows how propaganda colors assumptions.

If you haven't read it, Tey's inspector (Grant) is laid up in a hospital with a broken leg, bored out of his skull, when he's presented with portraits for him to guess the character without knowing the person's identity. When Grant discovers that he's given Richard III a sterling character from the copy of the NPG portrait, he decides that he has to learn more about him and find the evidence that proves he had murdered the princes.

Joan Szechtman | 401 comments Oops, I see you need a biography. Unfortunately, the biographies that I can think of, such as Paul Murray Kendall's Richard the Third are rather long.

Mandy Moody | 17 comments Daughter of Time would be wonderful - but yes, it's supposed to be a Biography. Her teacher isn't really knowledgeable and I think she'd approve anything non-fiction, biography or not, but she probably WOULD notice if it were fiction!
Thank you anyway, though :)

Joan Szechtman | 401 comments How about the new book by Annette Carson, Richard III - A Small Guide to the Great Debate? It's non-fiction and only 82 pages. I haven't read it yet, but I loved her lengthier book--Richard III: The Maligned King and I saw one excellent review from someone who I trust.
