Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments So I feel like I am the only guy that is on these forums, call me a dork I guess. I was a big fan on the Divergent series, actually I loved it. I also liked hunger games and loved harry potter. I guess as a 28 year old male some of these books may seem out of what is expected for me to read but I just love the adventure in each of these series. I'm looking for a new series to read. I'm not a fan of vampire or anything too sci-fi or even anything too fantasy I guess. It's hard for me to find books. I get bored with Dean Koontz books and got bored with James Patterson after the first 11 books of Alex Cross. I'm trying to find something that is a good read and isn't to girly. I know there has to be something out there for me. Thank you.

Ishbel | 484 comments Have you read CHERUB?? It's about teenage spies who go on, what would be considered, adult missions because 'children' are never suspected of being spies. theres 10 books in the first series, a few more in the next and the author is working on a new variation of the idea. The first book is called CHERUB: The Recruit.
I highly recommend it! Happy reading! :)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments thanks for the recommendations guys. I will look into them and hopefully find some others along the way.

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 94 comments Too bad you don't like vampires and the like. Because The Mortal Instruments is extremely good and has some great fight sequences with a great deal of humor. While I have not read it, I have heard Ender's Game is pretty good. I don't think that has a stitch of girliness to it. ;D

message 7: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel | 484 comments Yeah, the mortal instruments is AMAZING! I'd say that vampires are sort of an underlying plot line in TMI, even more so in the infernal devices (the victorian London prequel series-very good), but there is a ton of fantasy and a love triangle in each series.
The maze runner is great! I would highly recommend it!
Have you read Gone by Michael Grant?? I haven't read it but I know people who have (both male and female) and the love it!
Hope this helps, and its not dorky to be on goodreads, it makes people AWESOMER!! :D

message 8: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments it's the modern vampire novel that I don't like. I was a fan of Dracula and Anne Rices interpretation of vampires. Stephanie Meyers and some of the other authors have a little bit of an askew idea in my opinion. I will check out any and all recommendations you guys have. thank you again.

message 9: by Allison (new)

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 94 comments Jon, The Mortal Instruments is as far from Twilight as one can get. TRUST ME. ;D I love Anne Rice. She is extremely detailed in her writing. TMI is a lot darker than Twilight. While it does have romance, it is not the base of the books. In case you ever want to check it out.

message 10: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments thank you. I will definitely check it out.

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments I actually have city of bones at my house. I forgot a friend leant it to me a couple of months ago. I haven't been able to convince myself to read it, I think it may be the artwork that deters me. seems you guys recommend it I may have to give it a shot.

message 12: by Hari (new)

Ishbel | 484 comments City of bones is awesome, I love it SO MUCH!!! :D don't let the artwork deter you from the book, it's almost flawless! :)

message 14: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments I am starting city of bones do to the very common recommendations. I will let you know what I think.

message 15: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel | 484 comments Yessssss!! I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

message 16: by Allison (new)

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 94 comments NEVER judge a book by it's cover. ;D

message 17: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments Very nice Allison. I read the first couple of chapters, I'm still pretty skeptical because I'm not a huge supernatural fan. I will continue reading and give it a chance.

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments Have any of you read delirium?

message 19: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) No but I heard it wasn't all that great

message 20: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments TMI was so so, not that good in my opinion, TID on the other hand...

message 21: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments what is TID?

message 22: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) The infernal devices... It's Cassandra's prequel series

message 23: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments I stumbled by that series on my hunt earlier but it looked just as, well not my thing. Have any of you read Legend?

message 24: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) No but it's on my list and I hear its amazing:)

Dean Farrell (synesis) | 1 comments You're not the only guy xD I'm a little bit younger, (21) but I loved the Divergent series too (obviously). Just met Veronica Roth last week actually in Dublin :D Anyway, heard The Darkest Mind series by Alexandra Bracken is pretty good. Anyone else read that?

message 26: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel | 484 comments Anyone here a John Green fan?? I know his books are nothing like divergent as they are *usually* coming-of-age novels featuring nerds but they are usually very funny and make you think a lot. The Fault In Our Stars (a book about teenage cancer victims) doesn't sound very funny, but even when the theme is sad, John Green still finds ways to write a very intelligent and funny novel whilst making you cry. he is a very talented and funny author who can inexplicably get into the minds of teenagers, fictionalize them, and print them out on paper.I recommend you read his books.
Looking For Alaska
An Abundance of Katherines
Will Grayson, Will Grayson (co-written by David Levithan)
Paper Towns
The Fault in Our Stars

DFTBA! (he has a youtube based community called Nerdfighteria. Google it. :D)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments I'm a nerd fighter!!!! I love John Green and all of his YouTube videoes :)

I'm glad. The Infernal Devices is the prequel to TMI. It takes place in the late 1800's. While it does delve into the shadowhunter world it also deals with mechanical creatures as well. I liked TID more than TMI but read TMI first. I truly hope you like them. :D

Ninja_Narwhal~{Same O'l Popsgrub}~ (ninja_narwhalsameolpopsgrub) | 90 comments Delirium or uglies or maze runner. Which one should I read?

message 30: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel | 484 comments Same here Allison, I loved TID so much more than TMI, the characters were way more interesting! Still love TMI too though!!

@Stormy I LOVE JOHN GREEN! He is probably one of the smartest men around these days, and he genuinely seems like a nice person. I am a huge Nerdfighter and I love his books so much! :)

message 31: by Tia (new)

Tia Jenkins (tia_jenkins) @popsgrub maze runner

message 32: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel | 484 comments The maze runner is pretty good! I've only read the first book and I've never read dilerium or uglies but I think you should DEFINITELY try the maze runner!

Ninja_Narwhal~{Same O'l Popsgrub}~ (ninja_narwhalsameolpopsgrub) | 90 comments OK. I have 20 dollars burning for a good book.

Ninja_Narwhal~{Same O'l Popsgrub}~ (ninja_narwhalsameolpopsgrub) | 90 comments I just checked it out. Its 5
$5 for delirium( in a series of three)
=$15
Maze runner $8 for (idk how many but a lot.) Hmmmmm tough choice

message 35: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonnyspaztic) | 13 comments pops, where did you find the books for that price? I haven't shopped yet.

message 37: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1043 comments John Green is the reason I get an "a" in ap world history lol!!!

message 38: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel | 484 comments Yeah, he's just made of awesome! I learn a lot of stuff from Vlogbrothers too! I only started watching it early summer this year so I've missed a lot! I'm actually quite glad I get to watch the earlier videos and know how everything's gonna turn out, like when John announces he's gonna move from New York to Indianapolis, and I'm like 'YEAH!! You will be very happy there John, you will write books and start foundations and launch new channels and play FIFA and have 2 kids!' It's nice to know how things turn out! ...Except book endings... You have to read it to find out in that case!

message 39: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (kendrajesse) | 4 comments The Legend series is amazing! You should definitely read it! More of a futuristic type book if that is what you are interested in
