Please excuse the hideous formatting, I'm on my phone.

Got mine from Periplus, FYI.

So I'm definitely all amped and more motivated to read this now! With the movie coming out soon and all the hype surrounding this book :D

the vagueness of the situations was... well, vague. I find myself feel as if I'm Thomas throughout the book, that's how good it is. Like Thomas, it took me some time to understand shank, klunk, shuck, etc and I do wonder where that come from, I only know where klunk came from. Wrapping it up its a really interesting book and a breathe of fresh air

There's a movie coming out? Really?
Well, I've read this series, starting with The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials and the last The Death Cure. So far my favorite is The Maze Runner. The other two books are meh. Anyone with me?

Yep The Maze Runner are my favorite too of all. When I was reading The Scorch Trials it's just going downhill until i finished The Death Cure. But so far this is the best sci-fi book i've ever read!

Same reason with me! Now it's my currently-reading book. Hope I can finish it soon.

btw anyone else imagining Newt with an English accent?
Wow, I feel so embarrassed because I'm only up to chapter 7, hahaha.
It's very boyish, isn't it? Nothing much has happened yet, where I'm up to. I do hope it'll get more interesting soon. I need some love in this book; a trickle will keep me going :D

I like that all we know, is all that Thomas knows, so we try to figure out what's going on with him, but it does leave me confused most of the time.
can't really imagine what grievers are like, I can't get it in my head that they're frightening.
@rachel have you got to chapter 9 yet? maybe that's the "love" you might be looking for :D well it's not much though haha

The thing that I like about Thomas the most is his mental fortitude. Yes, he's smart and that's a huge advantage but mental and emotional strength is the best weapon when disaster strikes.
@Cininta: The next two books are waiting for you! Prepare yourself to be disappointed though.

But generally I think this book is great, its really exciting and the idea of living in a maze with bunch of grievers is a new menu for my hunger. But until the end of the book I still don't know why the shanks that got stung the very first time in the book want to kill Tommy, Alby want to kill himself instead. And how the hell Thomas and Theresa create the maze yet the got their asses shucked there too, what is WICKED anyway and The Flare. Overall to me This first book is like giving me crumbs of cookie, I know nothing about the real cookie. (Please ignore my cookie metaphor I just love cookies)
@Cininta : I imagine Newt have Australian accent
@Rachel : yes I think its very boyish but and I like it, haha. I enjoy their cussing at each other 'cause they create new words, even I don't know what it means but I get the idea.
I tried Gladers slang, how's it go? haha

@Idan: so far I like the second book, got my heart racing most of the time.
the end report is kind of weird because, in the whole book we never knew anything that Thomas didn't know, and then bam suddenly there's a report.

I mean WICKED certainly has a motive they always has right? they want The Gladers make attempt to get out, the method kill-one-per-day is effective and scary but stung? it's like you want them to eat a cookie then you let them know it's poisoned.
Thomas was the only person got merits from being stung, poor shanks that stung before him was just being conscious there's pile of klunk out there which must've been highly motivating...
@Cininta : in my head grievers is more gross than scary, you know most of the time I imagine them as a giant glob of snot, eww...

@Id..."
I'm glad the second book makes you feel good :)

Halfway reading I though it was very predictable and have a very simple and linier plot, the revelation came as not too surprising and didn't wowed me. Granted it was a fast paced story, but it didn't revealed a lot of plot.
It also seemed unnatural and I dislike how everything went 'smoothly' for Thomas. I wish instead of being the new kid at the block, Thomas was one of those old boys who got stung by Grievers and regained his memory and decide to take matters into his hand. Because gotta admit that I want to read a character with more idealism and rebellion. Instead of pushing things the way he wanted because he's new and he knew he's better, Gary Stu much?
But during all those time, I keep on reading it non stop without a single break. It was mesmerising and it did made me want to know more. I was torn after I finished it, at one side I feel sorry and can sympathise with Thomas and the Gladers. At the other side, I was feeling 'uh-oh okay', the plot progression is very slow but I have to admit that it is very interesting as well..
Going to buy the next installement at the end of this week, hope it'll be a lot better and better paced than the first one.
Oh boy, I didn't like it all. Am I in the minority?
I had to skim the last few chapters because I was really bored. I didn't really like any of the characters and I thought the plot was really flat. Nothing wowed me. The beginning was OK, well, actually it was quite interesting. I was wondering along with Thomas. But then, as it went along, I just lost interest. *sigh
However, I do love the actors chosen to play in the movie. Maybe I'll like the movie better. *fingerscrossed*

It depends on the reader, like if I'm not in the mood even the best book wont impress me.

I can see where you're coming from. I read it over a span of more than a week and every time I started to read again I had to... Warm up a little to get into the story again. Rather predictable, and thus pretty boring, at times - I agree on that.
I'm probably expecting too much from the movie, but I love the cast (O'Brien FTW) and I think all the action (and bare plot) would actually translate well into a movie. We'll see...
@Stevannie & Praesenti: Haha, yes I love Dylan and I really like Kaya Scodelario so I'm excited for the movie :)
Yes, I agree with you Praesenti . I think - I hope - that the action will translate well into a movie. I'm just worried at the lack of plot or bare plot (to borrow your words). I don't know whether the actors/actresses and the action will be able to carry the movie.
