Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) It was pretty good Michael. I enjoyed the stories shawshank redemption, the body, and the breathing method but did not like apt pupil but it was a pretty good collection. def check it out.

Amber-
I agree that the first three you mentioned are better stories, but Apt Pupil is the one that still gives me creepy flashbacks, even after 20 years. :o

message 304: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Thanks renee and yes apt pupil is a nasty and disturbing story. Btw, your name is my middle name. Lol. :-)

message 305: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments I just started reading Apocalypse Cow and I'm really enjoying it. One of my favourite authors (Christopher Moore) read and recommended this and I'm really glad he did. It's great so far!

message 306: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth I'm in the middle of Middlemarch too - although it's currently on hold as I started reading Great Expectations and one classic at a time is enough. Also reading A Dance with Dragons and Silver Wattle.

message 307: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I loved Eleanor & Park!

I am currently reading The Girl Who Chased the Moon and listening to The Choice. My digital download of Winter's Tale ended and even though it is ok and I want to finish it I don't want to buy it because I don't love it so I am back on the hold list for it. I anticipate getting it back in about a week.

message 308: by Sara (new)

I have Middlemarch in my car cd player and am half way through as well. It will be interesting to see how all the Characters come together.

Cheers, will do.

message 314: by Mayme (new)

Mayme (theladymaym) | 104 comments Currently just half way through The Shock of the Fall, and I must say I am rather wrapped up in it. I had heard some buzz about it, and saw it in my local library so I thought I would give it a bash and it is a really interesting read!

Something about it is very reminiscent of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for me. I think it might have something to do with it's portrayal of the protagonist's issues (although, I know in The Curious Incident... The protagonist is autistic which is technically a neurodevelopment disorder rather than a mental health issue, I feel like the first hand account of disordered thinking/living in both books draw parallels).

In any case, it is making for a pretty wonderful read (if slightly jarring; as the story is made up of anecdotes from here and there that don't adhere to a strict timeline).

message 315: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I finished poisoned house so need to get back to little men and the calling.

message 316: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) Christmas Mourning (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #16) by Margaret Maron

got them both for a dollar each at my local Dollar Tree store

message 317: by Richard (new)

Richard Coles | 5 comments Currently reading The Catcher in the Rye, it is not the normal kind of book I would read, but I bought an old paperback copy and I am finding a good read so far.

message 320: by Michael (new)

Michael (micky74007) 1999 A Novel of the CelticTiger and the Search for Peace (Irish Century Novels) by Morgan Llywelyn

This is the last in her series on the Irish century. If you have any interest in Ireland, these novels give you a very good feel of the birth of modern Ireland.
Good history, but even better novels.

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 209 comments The Silmarillion. Tolkien is very generous with letters to fans. Ask for a "brief sketch" and you get a 14 pages-long letter detailing the story lol

message 327: by Sarah (new)

Just started The Gospel of Loki, for a break in my Shakespeare reading. It'll be interesting to see how much it is influenced by the Marvel adaptations of Loki, or if it will stick to the traditional myths found in The Prose Edda etc.

message 332: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 209 comments Finished the Silmarillion (liked Eärendil's as much as I knew I would) and now I'm currently 100 pages in Doctor Sleep

message 333: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Finished The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat by Edward Kelsey Moore and this book did not strike a note with me at all. Now I've started A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole and these characters are just plain absurd. Also started Casino Royale by Ian Fleming.

Amy, I have not yet read Miss Peregrine's, but would like to for next month. What did you think of this book?

message 336: by Amy (new)

Amy | 106 comments I really enjoyed it, and I would really recommend it. When I finished last year, I was gutted that I had to wait 6 months for the sequel, I liked it so much.

I am enjoying all of them to be honest. I haven't read as much this month so far due to my line manager being away and having to pick up hours at work. :( She is back on Saturday so let the cramming commence!

message 339: by Kassandra (new)

Nearing half way through MaddAddam. Not 100% into it, but it's still a very good read. Can't beat Margaret Atwood's writing..,

message 345: by Susan (new)

Susan (suzybop) | 90 comments I have a mountain of books between my bookcase and ereader that I haven't read yet, but a bookcover caught my eye on Thursday and knowing nothing of the book or the author I'd already decided to buy it. This is why I never have any money. Even though we shouldn't judge books by their covers I have a great appreciation for jackets.
So as of tonight I'm digging in to Martin Harbottle's Appreciation of Time by Dominic Utton. (I have read the back of the book and am mightily relieved that it sounds like a great story).
