I'm currently reading 'Annihilation' by Jeff VanderMeer, I didn't know much about it at all when I started it, it is actually super creepy and i'd list the genre under Horror. Still, i'm really enjoying it! The suspense is killing me!

I've read some seriously terrific books lately.
Atonement
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption
Elizabeth Is Missing
Cry, the Beloved Country
I'm recommending all. Great stuff!

I'm tying to decide what to read next. It's either going to be Lord of the Flies by William Golding or Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. I'm excited to read both of them. Which one should I read first?
Faye wrote: "I hate it when I can't decide. Maybe flip a coin?"Yeah, that would probably be easier :)
I read Lord of the Flies in half a day, it was so immersive. If you want something relatively short that packs a punch, go for that. :)
As for the other book, I've never heard of it, so I can't really help!
Follow Faye's advice, flip a coin. ;)

I'm currently rereading Party of One: The Loners' Manifesto (take that everyone who says I need to get out more lol) and today I'm going to start Living Successfully with Screwed-Up People. I've been eyeing it for a while so I finally borrowed it from my coworker.
I'm now reading Illusion and its pretty good for the fifth installment of the Chronicles of Nick series thus far.
I just readThe Deserted House by E.T.A Hoffman. It is a really good light ghost/haunted house story.
Am now reading The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, am about half way through and what can I say; what a fantastic read so far, full of intrigue and suspense, can't wait to find out what the big secret is....Highly recommended, even though I've not finished it.
Right now I'm reading Bridge to Terabithia, which is a Newbery Prize winning novel, so I'm spending the whole time trying to figure out who's gonna die. Seems like if it's acclaimed YA someone has to die. Well, No one died in A Wrinkle in Time, but that might be an exception.
So, Who will it be? The best friend? One of the sisters? The Christmas puppy they take with them on their adventures? It's making me crazy.
Otherwise the book is quite good.
I wonder if I'll still think so after the puppy drowns or whatever fresh horror is awaiting me before the end.

Iasa wrote: "Monique, I loved the The Woman in White. I listened to the audiobook earlier this year whilst I was ill."He was an amazing writer, have you read any more of his that were as good?
I would do a Collins buddy read. I just read the Haunted Hotel. I have the The Woman in White on my to read book shelf.
Cindy,
If you don't find a Buddy reader here, check out the book page for Woman in White. There's probably a group out there that's doing it. I love Collins. WiW was great. Also, The Moonstone. And I have a special fondness for No Name.

Caitlin,
So glad to hear you're reading The Princess Bride. I read it some time before the movie was made and found it hilarious. The movie kinda distills the best parts of the book. They did a really great job with it.
As too Men in Tights, it's only funny if you've seen the Kevin Costner version of Robin Hood, which should only be viewed while inebriated. Although, Alan Rickman was brilliant as the Sheriff.

I read a few pages and decided to put it back on the TBR shelf! :-)
Iasa wrote: "Monique, I've only read two of his other works Armadale which I liked but it does drag in places and The Black Robe which I don't think I would recommend, it's just lack..."Excuse my ignorance but what's a Collins buddy read? I know what a buddy read is, sort of, but why Collins?
Let me know when you Buddy up to Mr. Collins. I'd love to eavesdrop on your conversation and maybe reread if I have time. SUCH a great, fun, twisty story!
I am looking forward to Buddy up to the Moonstone. Someone asked why Collins. Wilkie Collins came up in this thread. I had just read the Haunted Hotel and Iasa had read the Woman in White. We agreed on the Moonstone, but have not gotten together on a time. Anyone is welcome to join us.
Anytime in May is good for me. I have no preference. My to read shelf is wide open from now through May. I will probably read Northanger Abbey but I can fit in The Moonstone too.
Am happy to give this a go during May I've downloaded a copy to iPad, haven't read it before but if anything like the woman in white I won't be disappointed.
I have just read samples of the Moonstone. If it is a typical Wilkie Collins book, I don't think we will be disappointed. I have not read Woman in White, but it is on my to read shelf. Haunted Hotel was a very good Collins book.
I am reading Death in the Stocks written by [author:Georgette Heyer|18067. I really like the story and will probably read some more of her books.
I'm reading Haze which I'm enjoying as an easy read. I'm member of another group that is running a game where the other members pick your next book for you from your "to-read" list and I'm hoping it will be one of the new books I got today for my birthday because I'm itching to start one now!
I've just started The Devil's Detective. So far I'm enjoying it but it does seem a little slow. Hopefully things will progress a bit faster the further in I get.
I'm currently reading Blood Red Road. It's enjoyable so far, but I don't think it's going to live up to the hype of being "better than the Hunger Games" - at least not for me.
Any William Faulkner fans? Looking for other good Faulkner short stories. A Rose for Emily was a really good read.
I'm reading Villette and love it so far. I've read Jane Eyre 8 or 10 times, but haven't read any of her other novels.
I'm reading Villette; I'm enjoying it. I'm almost done--only couple of chapter to go. I really sympathize with Lucy Snow: the unreciprocated love. But, I also admire her fortitude. I truly love and feel Lucy Snow. Amazing read!
Finished The Rose of Tibet by Lionel Davidson a very good book. Have now started The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie for the Rainbow challenge and Readathon.
