My goal is 50 books but I'd like to mix it up with some other books types of challenges within that. I'd like to re-read a few books, mix in some non-fiction titles, and my husband and I are going to try and read 1 book a month together.Has anyone else started a TBR list for the year? I have with mostly books that are waiting to be read on my shelf, there's like 23.

I find it so nice to have the books listed though! I've never actively planned my reading but having things laid out like this is getting me excited for all the books I'll read next year.

Ohhh, book-shaped presents... my favourite!

Spectactular goals, everyone! Maybe we should count up how many books our members read on the whole throughout the year - I'm sure it would end up in the thousands!
Kim, I've tried to compile a TBR list for 2014, but when I filled all 90 slots to complete my goal and still had dozens of books left over that I want to read just as desperately as those, it started to make me kind of sad, LOL. I never feel like I've read enough!

Thank goodness for most of my challenges allow cross-overs (like a book I read for an A-to-Z challenge could count for an animal themed challenge as well), or I would have committed in the last two days to read over 200 books in 2014. *faint*I'd be really happy to make it to 100 books.
LOL I know the feeling, LuAnn! It's so hard to resist all the challenges thrown about on Goodreads. 100 is a great goal!
Each year I plan to read 52 books, but each year I read about 75. I have picked @ 70 books as potential 2014 reads. We'll see how it ends up. I read a lot of non-fiction, mostly things I am studying.
I read 45 this year but don't know how many I'll read next year. I'll just read 1 or more a week next year and figure it out then.

LOL I'm the same!

Last year I read 75 books and this year I've only read 34 books. Because of the difference between last year and this year, in 2014 I think I'll try to read 50 books.
Woah, I can't believe how many people are attempting to read upwards of 50 books! Good luck to you guys! My modest goal is 24. Even though I want to read as many books as I can, I enjoy them more when I take my time. When I read quickly, I tend not to get as invested as with a book I've taken more time on.
aiming for 200 next year.... got to 187 this year and 210 the year before so think 200 is a good place to aim for.
I am aiming for 36 which will be the three for each Genre on here (classic, YA and general), as I am trying to expand the types of books I read. If I squeeze in any of the ones I would normally revert to as well then it will be a bonus and a reward for reading three that month which I normally would not do.
Awesome goals, everyone! :D
Moira, I'm so pleased that you plan on reading all 3 of our monthly group reads! I'm sure we'll pick some great ones. :)

This year I was a little mad because I had to set back my goal of 50 books to 20 because I had lot going on, but this year I'm not slacking. So I'm setting a goal of 72 which I should be able to reach if I don't go months without reading like this year. So fingers crossed!
I'm planning on reading 104 books this year. That really is not much of a challenge. I probably read about 100 books a year anyway. My goal is to keep track of what I read for a year and write some sort of review about each book I read this year.
I'm setting myself a goal to record an review this year also. I never keep track and as I try and move on my paperbacks when I finish I often end up buying books I've already read!!
That's great, Lisa and Rose! I love reviewing what I read, and I've done that for every book I've read over the last few years, though I don't always post them for the public to read. Even if it's just a simple "loved it" or "didn't like it," it comes in handy for me when I'm looking back months or years later.
I never write a review and then sometimes I cant remember what the book was about. What a great goal!
My goal is 200-this includes picture books. :)2 other challenges to myself are:
1. Join some fun reading challenges
2. Create a spreadsheet to keep up with my blog post reviews and to keep up with my reading challenges
I need suggestions on what I will need to include on the one for keeping up with my reading challenges??
Happy New Year from Dubai! I can proudly say that I've started on my first book; Fear by jeff Abbott, already!
I know, but I think I've become addicted to spreadsheets. LOL. I need a pretty visual way to keep up with who is hosting the challenge, when I need to link up etc...
I'm setting my primary goal as forty, but think I can manage more! I used to read nine books a week when I was young (no exaggeration, I don't know how I used to do it!), so know I can do it!
My challenge for 2013 was 50, then 75, and finally 100 books. I ended up finishing 120 books as of midday today. For 2014 I'm challenging myself to read 100 books. Many of my reads are audiobooks, which I can enjoy as I knit or quilt or even do housework; but I suspect my life will rearrange itself in the year to come, leaving me with less time for all those things that I now do simultaneously with reading. But I'll be optimistic and hope for at least what my previous goal was.

awesome goals all! Good luck! Mine is to read 1 or more books a week until the end of the year. In 2013 I read 71 books all together though goodreads only reported 45 of my reads. I have no set goal of how many books I will read just do 1 or more books a week until the end of the year and I am starting tonight with Nightmare Abbey
More than 52. Since I already made a list, I strictly want to see it through. I bought some of them 3 years ago and haven't got to them. There are some biggies in this list, like Infinite Jest, Lord of The Rings Trilogy, Shantaram etc.

I'm the same way. When I speed through a book I tend to forget most of what I read only a few months later.
As I am anticipating a rather robust year, I plan to read 1 book a month. I really like the idea of the different genre each month challenge. But we shall see... ha!
My goal is 52. Historically I've been a 100+ book a year reader, but if I'll goes well I'll be starting at Vet School this fall, which will probably diminish reading time significantly, and in the meantime I'm going to be taking some heavy courses. So I'll shoot for an average of 1 a week.
