I finished reading IJ this February and I just found out today that a group will be attempting to read it this summer. Go to http://infinitesummer.org/ if you are interested in playing along with the challenge that starts up on June 21st and attempts to finish the book in 3 months (I have no affiliation to the group, just think it sounds like a fun way to read this biggie). I think I'll skim along with that group and I'd be happy to have some discussion here as well. There were some things I absolutely loved about the book and some things that felt way, way, WAY too drawn out, but overall the good outweighs the overdone. When his humor was on, it was brilliant.

You give a very fair appraisal, one which has made up my mind to attempt IJ. However, not this summer as I've already begun a Steinbeck Summer with East of Eden. Thanks for the review. If I ever get to it, I'll get back to you.
