losing heart". I think this quote means, to find a courageous person
you're looking for a person able to face defeat. Maybe they wont make
the same mistake twice, but at least they're not afraid to try once no
matter what the outcome. To bear with something is to put up with, so
somebody who can handle defeat without fear,or 'losing heart' is by
definition a brave person. Losing heart i think here means losing
sleep,or having fear in your heart. There are examples of people and
characters who are not afraid to look fear in the eye. This quote can
be connected to my independent reading book and Farenheit 451. This
critical lens quote relates because, in Push, Clarisse Jones is a
courageous young girl with the ability not to succumb to the negative
influences of her community. She still attends school despite being
told not to by her unstable mother, again showing signs of bravery at
all costs. Even though Clarisse faces defeat and criticism daily, she's a courageous girl who wont lose faith. The same can be said for the Clarisse in Fahrenheit 451.( Everything got erased by accident after this point so, the writings not so good -____- ). She begins Montag's non book burning adventures, knowing how illegal it is to promote such an act. She continues her antics in school ( THINKING!!)and asking questions, bearing defeat from her teachers and possibly the government, daily. Not being discouraged even though you could be shot down, is brave. Two instances of people/characters that ARE courageous.

The critical lens question asks you discuss two pieces of literature from the particular perspective of a statement that is provided to you as the "critical lens." The critical lens statement will generally be an open-ended quote from a book that can be interpreted in many different ways.
We'd like you to consider this critical lens:
"The test of a courageous person is the ability to bear defeat without losing heart."
Use your current independent reading book AND Fahrenheit 451 to consider the critical lens above. In your response, be sure to do three things:
1. Summarize the quote in your own words
2. Formulate a thesis that connects this quote to your independent reading book and F451
3. Provide support that explains how the critical lens quote relates to each book by including evidence from each book.
