Ana | 63 comments Hi. I'm Ana. I need this, I have 400 books on my kindle. Mind that is on the device, noth the cloud. Including that and the ones on my computer, it is a lot. So I'm hoping for Mt. Everest. I'm going have to have trouble not reading a ton of library books. I always got so many and not read the ones on my kindle. Also Debbie Maccomber rocks. Pity I don't have all her books.

Welcome, Ana! Good luck--hope to see you at the top of Everest!

Lynn (larainey) | 62 comments Hey all! I really enjoyed being part of the Mount TBR 2013 so I am going to do it again. I read 24 books from my pile in 2013 and I am going to try and read 36 books from my TBR pile this year. I don't know what I will start with but I think that it will be Cold Harvest by Chris Holm because I am reading him now and I don't think that I will be able to finish it before the end of the year.

Ana, I have at least 400 books on my Nook and on the Kindle app on my iPad. But I'm going to focus on the 600-plus physical books that are spread all over my house. Now that I'm retired, we will be thinking about downsizing eventually and I don't want to have to take all these books with me!

readmuchrunfar | 28 comments I'm back for my second year. Although it's tempting to go for a different mountain, Mt. Ararat (48 books) is really the perfect goal. That gives me room for a few library books and impulse reads but takes cares of a nice chunk of the backlog.

Last year this challenge was great for me--it really kept me motivated to go back to older books on my list. Onward and upward!

message 108: by Barbarac (new)

Barbarac (bcb72) | 98 comments I'm getting so excited to start this challenge...with so many new books available, sometimes it's hard to get to the ones we already have at home. I know that I can't resist myself every time I walk into the library or bookstore...and now it can be done online! But I know I have some great books at home, and I'm finally going to read them :)

Elle (louiselesley) Hello, everyone calls me Elle! (short for a double barrel name!)

I am from Belfast in Northern Ireland. I thought I was quite bad at having over 200 books in my TBR and searched out a challenge to keep me accountable to my challenge this year.

I'm starting off small with Mt. Vancouver but have high hopes of getting higher!

La_mariane Hello! This is my second year doing this challenge and I managed 12 books in 2013. I'll try for the same amount in 2014 because anything more is unreasonnable for me. I'll see you all in the mountains, struggling (or soaring) to the top!

Alberta Ross (authorshow4506833alberta_ross) | 6 comments I did really well last year but cannot see any difference in the pile:( starting small this year with Mount Ararat - 48 - but last year I managed to clear approx 70 of the pile so may well update later:)

message 120: by Nell (new)

Nell I found this site late last year and joined for the third quarter. I'm signing on for 2014.

My TBR is a mountain range. Bookshelves line two walls of my reading room (the living room). I ran out of shelf space about three years ago. Now there are boxes and stacks of books in front of the bookcases. I love used bookstores. I really don't know how many print books I have - more than 1000. I also have over 100 e-books downloaded to my Kindle.

My goal for 2014 is Mount Ararat. I hope to read more of the books I already have and acquire less.

Kate | 53 comments Like Bev, my bookaholic status remains unchanged. Despite the fact that I knocked 102 books off of my 2013 Mount TBR by the end of December, there are still whole mountain ranges waiting to be conquered. 741, by today's count. (Gasp!) I am hoping that I managed to read more than I added in 2013, but I haven't had time to run the numbers yet.

This is my third Mt. Everest challenge -- and I love doing it!

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 20 comments Hello! I remember seeing this challenge last year and thought it was a great idea but reading from my TBR pile wasn't a focus as I had a continual rotating stack of library books. However, a resolution for 2014 was to focus on the books I own. I spent the last few weeks of 2013 getting them all entered into GR (I still have a shelf or two left!) and my current count is over 1,000 print books and 1,000 ebooks.

I think I am going to go all in and try to tackle Mount Olympus.

message 130: by Sarai (new)

Sarai (chrysalis_stage) Heylo booksters, I like this idea! I have not been buying as much books as I normally do, due to lack of funds and also rekindling my love affair with the library, but that being said I still have easily 200 books that I own and are unread. I need them read so that I can decide whether to keep them to re-read or pass them on (de-cluttering/de-hoarding) so this challenge is great.

I tried to read 50 books last year and due to having a few months with no reading it encouraged me to read smaller books to complete the challenge rather than the chunky ones that I enjoy, so this year I hope to enjoy some of the 500-1000 pg books I have on my shelf that have been ignored for the whole of 2013 at least and some time before that.

I will probably start off small and go for the Pike's Peak (12) and anything above that will be a bonus! <^_^>

Sarah (moragepona) Hi there fellow bookworms.

I've worked at an english bookshop in Switzerland for the past two years, and was a customer there for a long time before that. Adding to my already bookwormy character, I now get to read books for school and work, which has done nothing to make my pile smaller... For every book I read, I buy two more, or so it seems. I have piles on the floor at my parents place, in "my" room, and also where I live now. My goal is to read more books than I buy this year, which is why I joined this challenge. Whilst I signed up for Mt. Ararat, I'm hoping I might climb one or two piles higher, but I don't want to put on too much pressure for my first go at the Mountain Challenge :)

Oh, my current mountain range consists of about 750-800 books, and I own something over 1000, I'd say. I've got to properly update and assign all my books to goodreads shelves.

Pamela | 52 comments Hello, I'm back for the second year. I have a huge mountain to climb, but will start out trying for Pike's Peak at 12 Books. I also have too many books checked out from the library, so I want to be realistic. I did find last year by being in this group I paid more attention to reading my older owned books, which is a very good thing. Because if I'm not going to read them, why keep storing them?

Good luck to all in climbing their peaks!

Michelle | 3 comments This is a great challenge for me! It seems my list of owned TBR books comes in 1000+ books. I LOVE BOOKS, but I am not a very fast reader. I hit our library sale twice a year, and walk a way with a trunk full, can beat it at $1 a book for trade paperback. Goodreads is a Gem as well as a thorn for me, it keeps me organized, involved and reading, but it also keeps me in the loop of such wonderful reads everyone posts about, hence the large owned pile! Here's to a good year of reading, thanks for starting this challenge for people like me!

message 138: by Nadia (new)

Nadia (heartlesstree) | 26 comments Hi! My name is Nadia and I'm new this year!

I found a link to this challenge via Pinterest I think, and I found that via Book Riot, ha.

Anyway, I'm here because like a lot of you my TBR pile has gotten out of control through the years. I want to say I have around 120 books, but I'm not entirely sure, there may be more than that (plus, I keep buying more on my Kindle U_U). I've gotten to the point where I just buy books because "I really want them and will read them someday" and then I just end up reading a new or a borrowed one. So, this year as one of my resolutions I want to read as many books from my TBR pile as I can.

Thankfully, my room is not a mess of books, yet, my bookshelf manages them all, but I want to go back to the days when I used to buy a book and read it right away, or when I just had 5 or less books around to be read.

That's pretty much it.

Nice to meet you all, and good luck to everyone!
Let's do this! :)

But I didn't quite make the summit of Mt Vancouver last year - I was 3 books short - so I'm scaling it back to Mt Blanc. If I manage a few more, then I'll be even happier :)

Mark Baker (carstairs38) I'm not sure how big my Mt. To Be Read is, but it is certainly a range. So many great sounding series out there, and I buy the first and then never get around to it because authors I like are coming out with the next in their series....

Hi, I'm Mark and I'm a book aholic. I read mainly cozy mysteries and I'm venturing into middle grade fiction because my to be read pile wasn't big enough as it was. I'm just signed up for the lowest level of the challenge right now because I know me. Heck, February is already getting crowded with new books by authors I like and the month hasn't even started yet.

I post my reviews over at Carstairs Considers.... http://carstairsconsiders.blogspot.com/

message 145: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all
I just joined GR and this group. I don't have my books entered onto my page yet or anything else set up , other than the books I've read so far in January . (5)
I'd like to sign up for Pike's Peak to start with ,then it sounds like I can bump up to a higher level if I complete the first one ? I hope that's right !
I have been looking through the GR groups and trying to find one that isn't a lot of pressure or tons of different things that need accomplished .
I'm like a lot of you , I have WAY too many books loaded onto my Kindle .It's so easy to buy them on there but it has gotten out of control . I think I'm in the high 300's now . I don't read as fast as I used to ,so I need to learn how to read what I have instead of continually piling up more books .
Looking forward to meeting all of you and hoping to make some friends . Right now , my home page says I have no friends . Makes you feel a bit like an outcast !
Anyhow, I'll put my name in over at the Pike's Peak level and see how it goes .
Thanks :)

Rebecca
I try fooling myself and keeping most of them in my Cloud so I can't see them . I guess we all have the same problem when it comes to books. Very easily addicted and no matter how many we have ,we are always looking for more .
Maybe we are all more of a Support Group ?
