T.A. Webb (wwwgoodreadscomtawebb) | 9 comments I messed up.

I want to change the cover to the new one I have, and just published today, but I couldn't so I set up a new addition.

Dumb of me.

Can we delete the cover (the one with the chair) and add the new one (the chalkboard one)? I'd like to keep the edition with the posts, if possible.

Thanks! I am at your mercy!

Tom

Just to confirm, the book was never published with the old cover?

T.A. Webb (wwwgoodreadscomtawebb) | 9 comments Can I ask, how can someone rate the book before it's released? I have a 2 star review on Oct 30th, and I didn't release the book until Saturday, Nov 2nd?

You should never ask that question. One answer is that people can use the ratings for any purpose they want and some will use it to indicate where the book is on their 'wants list'.

I notice that you have thanked your beta readers. What cover was on the book they read?

T.A. Webb (wwwgoodreadscomtawebb) | 9 comments There was no cover on the manuscript they read. I didn't have it on the book until Saturday when it was ready to publish (I self publish).

And you're right. I forget others can see the question, and the answers. I just wonder, and it doesn't really matter. I am just glad people want to read the book, and hope they enjoy it.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Normally, I'd agree with Banjomike that ratings are just used by members to whatever purpose -- and I definitely agree that authors should use caution when questioning or commenting on reviews or ratings (caution as in maybe email privately to support@goodreads.com rather than public posts or engaging member directly).

But in feedback group myself and other readers have reported a bug where random 2-star ratings appeared on our shelves that we did not make. (I don't use the star ratings system at all so the freaky thing really stood out on my shelves where I sporadically sort by ratings because unfortunately I have accidentally one-starred books when using the android cell phone app.)

Bad idea for author to contact the member; but, you might want to email support and they, without bringing author name into it, can discreetly mention the bug to member in case they want to double-check if an intended rating or a bug.

If intended rating, could be good news if they rated a 2 because your book is their second next read …
