Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Overview of The Dark-Hunterverse series

The Dark-Hunters has several series that tie-in and overlap the main series. Those are:
* Dark-Hunter series
* Dream-Hunter series
* Were-Hunter series
* Chronicles of Nick Young Adult series
* Hellchaser series

This series encompasses the entire Dark-Hunterverse, including the YA series.

The Dark-Hunter Credo:

We are Darkness. We are Shadow.

We are the Rulers of the Night.

We, alone, stand between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. We are the Guardians.

The Soulless Keepers.

Our souls were cast out so that we would not forewarn the Daimons we pursue. By the time they see us coming, it’s too late.

The Daimons and Apollites know us. They fear us. We are death to all those who prey upon the humans.

Neither Human, nor Apollite, we exist beyond the realm of the Living, beyond the realm of the Dead.

We are the Dark-Hunters.

And we are eternal.

Yeah, yeah. Enough of the doom and gloom because, baby, that ain’t us. You want to know what a Dark-Hunter is? We are what the intro says. We’re Mad, Bad and Immortal. We’re ancient warriors with attitudes who fight rough, and play hard.

We are the scary things that go bump in the night. And we love every minute of it. So when you think you’re being watched. You just might be. The question is…is it something evil or is it one of us?

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Like any series that has this many books there are some books that I like better than others. I just wish that Kenyon wouldn't give the guys such horrible pasts, it can be draining to read about so much brutality, Styxx, being a good example of it as over 80% of the book was like that.

I started that one and got to the abuse and thought so not in the mood. I will come back to it eventually but yeah she is the queen of the tortured hero!

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments The only part of this series that makes no sense to me is her spinoff of the "hellchaser" series I don't get why she keeps it under the DH label.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Ok so I am trying to start Styxx I am having a hard time getting into it.

So I think this is a mental thing. I know a lot of people loved Ash's book but I was not one. 400 pages of torture was to much then we meet Tory who sorry but she is not strong enough to be with Ash.

Anyway so what I want to know before I try and settle down with 800 pages is this more of the same??

I hate to say it, but only 400 pages of torture is nothing compared to this one.

Yes, it might be a good idea to have some fluff to read for a break with it.

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I downloaded this one but still need to read it.

message 11: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I'm trying to read the series in order and am currently stuck on Dream Chaser (Dream-Hunter, #4; Dark-Hunter, #13) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . I really need incentive to get back to it.

Completely agree that Kenyon is the queen of the tortured hero. Zarek's book had me bawling all over the pages.

That one wasn't one of my favorites, I liked the ghosts the best.

I really liked Zarek's book too. I like how grumpy he was and still sort of is.

Yeah. I'm not a fan of the Dream Hunters (which is probably why I'm stuck).

Which ones are the ghosts in?

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Lauren wrote: "Which ones are the ghosts in?"

The one you are stuck on, Dream Chaser.

I skipped that one.
For what it is worth she does a good job on the recap so I know there is stuff in there in future books but so far I am not lost.

message 16: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I read the series in order and loved it. I had a hard time getting my hands on all the books. My library didn't have them all.

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Thanks Darcy and Dawn. I'm still going to read it (soon I hope) because my OCD won't let me skip it ;0)

message 18: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments I had a look at my lists. I've read 8 all from the library, but not in order. I've got another couple on my shelves. I think I probably need to go back and start again.

Though I do remember not liking the dream hunters very much. I think I stopped reading about the time Nick went crazy. I do love Simi though ;)

message 19: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Simi is my favorite too! I would love to see a whole book with her.

I'd like to see her get a HEA. I can't imagine who Kenyon would pick for her. It'd be fun though. I imagine she'd lead the guy on quite a merry chase.

For sure!! Plus the guy would have to have the patience of a saint to deal with Simi full time.

message 23: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 2046 comments Can you imagine a Simi YA spin-off series? That would be something. lol

Angie | 419 comments *****MINOR SPOILERS******

As at least Darcy knows, I'm just learning about and getting into this series. I'm on the 6th book according to the Dark-Hunterverse page, Night Play (Were-Hunter book 1), and I have to agree that some of these books have been hard to jump into at times. I also agree about the torture being a bit much, over and over again. And I also agree that Simi is absolutely awesome!! I haven't gotten to the part Sandra said Nick went crazy yet, and it kinda scares me to think of Nick any crazier than he is at this point! Oh well, I'll learn in due time I suppose. I have every expectation to finish the whole series, though you guys have me a little scared about Ash's and Styxx's books. Also the one with Stryker, since I'm not sure how she can turn him or Styxx around from being bad guys. I also hope somewhere along the lines Artemis and Dion get what they deserve!!

message 26: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3123 comments Angie, I'm glad that you are enjoying these.

message 27: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I asked on the Sherrilyn Kenyon thread, but I'm going to ask here too. Does the narrator Fred Berman stay intense throughout all the books he reads? And how does it work out with having so many different narrators throughout the series? Does it get annoying or not so bad since they are very close to stand alone books?

Kenyon does a masterful job with Styxx. I couldn't believe she would be able to pull it off, but she did!

message 29: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I'm reading the first full Dream-Hunter book, and though I liked the first short story featuring the Dream-Hunters, this one is not grabbing me. I can't quite decide if I like the Dark-Hunters more or the Were-Hunters, with each one I'll think oh I like this better than the other, but then it comes time to read the other and I'm convinced they're better. Oh well, better that than trying to decide which one I like least. I'm very tempted to skip to Acheron's story, but I know I will need all the back story from the other stories leading up to it.

message 30: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I tended not to like the Dream-Hunter stories as much as the other two either. I don't think we're alone in that.

message 31: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) The Dream Hunters are not nearly as good as the Dark Hunters and Were Hunters but it is important to read them because they are connected to Acheron's book in significant ways.

message 32: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I figured as much, even though he only made an appearance at the very end, but much info was given about him. I'm starting Devil May Cry now, if I can stay awake, and read the short story about Nick where he first came back to NOLA. That was super sad! Still want to snuggle him and tell him it'll all be okay, even if he is an idiot at the moment!

message 33: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Yes, Nick's being an idiot has him in my doghouse right now.

message 34: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Spoilers included below!!!!!

Lauren, please tell me he doesn't remain stupid throughout the next 15-30 books I have left? I'm going by the Dark Hunterverse list, so I'll be reading Nick's books in with the Dark Hunter, Were Hunter and Dream Hunter books. Though I'm not real sure about the way they're listed, since the Dream Hunter book I just finished had Nick at 18, Zarek still in Alaska and Kyrian still a Dark Hunter, when in the previous Dark Hunter book, Nick was like 26 and the other two weren't Dark Hunters anymore. The only thing that makes me think it should be this far into the series is the Acheron info Kenyon gives out. And the appearance of ZT, which we wouldn't have understood him at all without knowing Savitar for so long already.

message 35: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Lol! I'm only up to Acheron's book but I believe he has yet to redeem himself :0(

message 36: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments Well there are quite a few books after Acheron, so I can still have faith in my boy!! I can't believe she would make such a prominent character only for him to turn forever to the dark side!! At least that's my hope!
