Escortgamer I am pondering over the meanings of the first three chapters and they are really confusing. Okay, Crawford hired Clarice, Clarice hates Crawford, Clarice likes Crawford now, Clarice goes to jail, Clarice sees Lecter. Until that part, I can understand some stuff. Other than that, no. I do not get anything of what she told Lecter and what Lecter told her. What are the gold beads or the wit in the segue or the discourtesy? I never have been confused with Red Dragon before. Please help.

Above is a rather dense Google page analysing Silence of the Lambs - my own two cents are that the initial pages are more about setting up the characters Crawford and Lector (rather than Clarice despite being the main character)

Wow. That IS dense...

Personally, I agree that these chapters are more about setting up the characters of Crawford and Lecter, although I'm going to go and reread them now as you've made me curious that I may have missed something!
