Mary Camille I did a double-take in order to understand the title, which I thought was a very clever one. I was not sure I was going to enjoy this book when I first asked my daughter to borrow it, but I found myself at times unable to put it down. I really, really enjoyed this and thought it was an excellent read. It is a refreshing type of book and an intriguing premise, I am glad my daughter bought the book.

Katrina I quite agree! This is not a genre I usually read but I was hooked from the beginning. I had no idea Hill is Stephen King's son.

Mary Camille Neither did I, Katrina, and neither did my daughter when she bought the book. Knowing it now, I can understand why some of the book seemed almost familiar to me, yet it was so different from Stephen King's writing that I never had a clue Hill was related to him. It's good to see that the apple didn't fall far from the tree here!

Joyce Whitebread I really enjoyed this book, but had to vote for Doctor Sleep, thought it was better.

Mary Camille Oh wow, Joyce, I did the same thing! I was torn between the 2 books but in the end I had to vote for Doctor Sleep, I so enjoyed that book.

I was really torn too! In the end I voted for NOS4A2, but it was really close!

Sara Shrieves I loved this book AND Doctor Sleep. They were both so amazing and I really didn't know if I would like a sequel to The Shining, but I was gladly proven wrong!! And I love love LOVE that they are now both merging their own made up universes into each other's fictional works. It is so awesome.

Clare Has anyone read any of Hill's other books? Are they equally good?

Greg at 2 Book Lovers Reviews I thought that N0S4A2 was incredibly well written. You can definitely see the "Kingesque" influence. I bought Heart-Shaped Box. I will be reading it soon.

Lori This book rang all of my bells! I am tongue-tied over the title, but was stunned to hear a bit of bookish gossip today at the help desk between YA and Adult Fiction. The patron quizzed me, "You ever read Joe Hill's, "Horns'?" I shook my head no, and another clerk said, "hang on". He pulled "NOS4A2" off of the new books shelf asking, Is this him?" I spazzed out and said too loud, "Oh my gosh, I just read that. Oh, You HAVE to read this. I gave him a few lures, but no spoilers." LOVE THIS writing and imagination. (I checked out "Horns.")

Alli I loved NOS4A2 as well. I started reading Stephen King when I was in middle school, and although NOS4A2 is a great story all on its own, I spazzed out over every thing that reminded me of King. Some examples: the dog is a St. Bernard (Cujo), the kid's bike was too large (It), using powers causes physical symptoms (Firestarter), plus many others. Also, a couple of direct references (Pennywise the Clown, the True Knot from Doctor Sleep). These things just added another layer of enjoyment to a very cool story.

Clare Oh my gosh I picked up the direct reference to the True Knot, but not Pennywise! Where was this?

If I remember correctly, it was when they looked up the boy's phone on GPS and the map didn't match the actual USA. Where Maine was supposed to be it said "Pennywise's Circus" or something like that. I'm pretty sure that was it!

Clare Ahhh thanks Alli - now you say it I think I remember reading that, just didn't hoist it in :-)

Clare Can anyone recommend any similar good read to NOS4A2? in a bit of a reading funk, and cant find anything really exciting to read! Thank you :)

Deborah Hill's first book - Heart Shaped Box - will definitely not disappoint. He is certainly a chip off the old block. A must read if you haven't.

Have you read 11/22/63 by Stephen King? It is amazing. Over 700 pages I read it in about 3 hours. It is always in the back of my mind, and when someone talks about John F. Kennedy's assassination, I will always think of 11/22/63 by Stephen King.

Themetalmallet My favourite thing written by Hill so far is his graphic novel series Locke And Key. My second favourite piece of his writing is this book. Next would be his short story collection called 20th Century Ghosts. Awesome book.

Clare Thank you Lori and Deborah :-)

20th Century Ghosts was how I found out about Joe Hill. I've liked his novels, but his stories in Ghosts were superb. Some were beautiful, even.

Sue Ciarmiello I listened to Kate Mulgrew narrate NOS4ATU. It was great! I listened as often as I could.

The other book suggestion: In the Tall Grass by both Stephen King AND Joe Hill.

So did I! Wasn't she amazing? In any case, like everyone else, I started with Heart Shaped Box and had no idea that it was Joe Hill was in fact Stephen King's kid. I was simply looking for more reads by the author. NOS4ATU was simply brilliant and one of the most satisfying books I've read in a long time.

Just got through Mr Mercedes by Stephen King which was also pretty good.

The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes.

Clare I've read the Shining Girls. I was so looking forward to reading it, but ended up a bit disappointed - it just didn't do it for me, not sure why as everyone I know who has read it really enjoyed it! :-)

Oh well.

Laurie Just finished this book a few days ago. It really kept me captivated. I usually don't read this type of book but the titled caught my attention. Very creepy read! I recommend it!

Nadine I read NOS4A2 when it first came out and still cannot stop thinking about it. That was a well written novel with characters I came to care about very much. Cannot wait for his next labor of love!
