Library... I read this one last year. I gave it 4* at the time because it's entertaining but it's just not very memorable.
I liked (and remember) his The Day of the Triffids a lot better.
This is a beautifully dated science fiction horror novel. The tone, style and language - brilliantly performed by the narrator in the audiobook I listened to - is of its time, in postwar little England, and what it lacks in action and pace it more than makes up for in tension and moral exploration. A great idea, excellently crafted, and thoroughly enjoyed. (The narrator - Nathanial Parker - read it with a hint of 1950's BBC accent, which really added to the context in which it was written. I wish the voices in my head were as versatile as the readers ...)
Library - I liked it, but found it a little slow in places. I'm definitely inspired to try more John Wyndham though.
Library - I enjoyed this book very much, but I don't see it as one I would want to keep and read again.
It's been on my bookshelf since I first read it as a teenager; and went back there! It was interesting to reread, since I haven't read him since I was a teen.
