If anyone is interested in checking out the original story by Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher, it is available to read free online here:http://www.online-literature.com/poe/31/
I know it's already been a few days... But I dug out my copy and will start tonight. (Alright, you over-achievers... Slow it down! Ha ha.)

I see a couple versions come with a study guide. Is it that complicated?
I re-downloaded my copy onto my Kindle last night and I hope to get started with my re-re read by the end of the week. :)
It's funny, although we read this book earlier this year, I'm still looking forward to reading it again. Not too many authors are that good to make me want to endlessly reread them. :)

So...in reading the comments above I see this book has something to do with Fall of the House of Usher, but E. A. Poe?? Would it be beneficial to re-read the Poe story prior to reading Usher's Passing? Additionally, is there a study guide for Usher's Passing, only because I love study guides (I noticed there was a study guide for Boy's Life)
Correct! This story is based upon the Ushers, who were first created by E.A. Poe. It is not necessary to read the Poe story, but IMO, it does contribute to a better understanding of this novel. Which is why I provided the links above. :)
Yea, I know the original story very well, because it always reminded me of my father's family and my family.
I have not read Poe's tale. Was Hudson Usher a character in Poe's, therefor one in McC's? Here I was thinking that McC liked the name Hudson as I recalled Hudson Greathouse from the Corbett books - ha ha.
doh -- I wasn't going to re-read because I read it recently but hearing everyone talk about it reminds me of how good it was .... maybe I can squeeze it in
Now, you'd think that after reading this book 2 or 3 times I would remember if a character's name was Hudson, but nope, I do not. :)I think something is wrong with my brain.
Randolph wrote: "I don't think a Hudson ever figured in the Poe story. Roderick Usher was the protagonist if I remember correctly."Yes, in the McGammon story, Hudson is Roderick's brother….I think--LOL!!
Started the book this weekend, not far into it, but will catch up with everyone. Looking forward to discussing it with you all.
You can pop in and discuss this at any time, Chad. Just please preface your post with the chapter or page you are on and then put your post between spoiler tags.I created a new thread for when everyone is done. Then we can have a nice discussion without spoiler tags.

I'm finally able to focus on this book only. Yay! I love to snuggle down with a McCammon book, late on a Sunday afternoon in the fall. Or any time really, but especially now. It feels cozy. :)
I'm about 2/3rds through. Sadly... a spoiler came through in the email I received saying there were updates here. Darn. Surprising spoilers? Not really. A little since it's been a long time since I read this. I noticed another connection to the Matthew Corbett series. Rix authored a book with "Bedlam" in the title, or as the title. Of course, right away I thought of The Queen of Bedlam. Ha ha. Yeah. I'm a weirdo that's always looking for connections.
I love those references too! Can you tell me more about the spoiler thing? I'm not aware of what happened exactly, but whatever it was I want to fix it. I don't want anything to be spoiled for anyone.
Charlene wrote: "Shoot. Thanks for letting me know. I'll see if I can fix that. I'm sorry. :("Oh man--I replied to a comment on Boone & Logan! But it wasn't this site--it was on the "finished" one where we don't need to leave spoilers. How would that come up on this one?????
I would never intentionally add a spoiler. I assumed that forum was safe, and that only those that finished would read the comments there...
Kim, I think she got an email update that included the first line or two of the post in the We're Done thread. I don't get notifications in my email, so I didn't know it did that.
I get email notifications about posts, but they don't include anything but a link to the thread title. No excerpts from posts show up in mine....

Hmmm, thanks for chiming in Hunter. I'm still trying to figure out if there is a problem with something I'm doing. As of right now, I think the only way to fix it would be to turn off the notifications for that thread, which would have to be done at the recipient's end.
"an email update that included the first line or two of the post in the We're Done thread"Yes, that's what I got. But doesn't matter much to me, just thought I should say something in case it matters to anyone else.
Interesting. With this reply, I'm not disputing what you're saying, just showing my example. Here's what I received just now in response to Rebecca's post.
I checked the email settings here on Goodreads and there was no option for including text from the post. So now there's a mystery! 8-) Why do some people get them and others not?

I'm getting the same notifications that Hunter just illustrated. That's not good to get more info, unless we specifically go to the link…. Hmmmm.

I hope they can stop those for you, Rebecca. My notices are like the one Hunter posted_vey generic, letting me decide if I want to go to the site or not...

Please post the chapter or page you are on and then put your post between spoiler tags.
I will open another thread for Usher's Passing-We're Done. Once that thread is open, no spoiler tags will be needed there.
I hope you can join us in reading one of MY favorite Robert McCammon tales! Happy reading!
