Dawn of the Arcana is one of the two series we are reading for November. We are discussing the first four volumes as a group.

Princess Nakaba of Senan is forced to marry Prince Caesar of the enemy country Belquat, tantamount to becoming a hostage. While Caesar is pleasing to the eye, he is also selfish and possessive, telling Nakaba outright: “You are my property.” With only her attendant Loki at her side, Nakaba must find a way to cope with her hostile surroundings, her fake marriage...and a mysterious power!

Discuss Dawn of the Arcana here!

Kristen | 1392 comments I'm really looking forward to rereading this. My library finally has volumes 7-10, after I requested them months ago. Now I have to reread everything, to make sure remember all of the details.

I often find that I don't like high-fantasy manga, but Dawn of the Arcana is really good. The art is beautiful and the characters are great. The writing has an almost Western feel to it, with the way that Nakaba and Caesar have been developed. And I love the relationship of said characters. I love watching them grow closer over time after getting off on the wrong foot at their meeting :)

I always passed over this series thinking it was something that wouldn't interest me. But after I saw it popping up all over the place and I realized my library had several volumes I figured I'd give it chance. I am so glad I did! Dawn of the Arcana is an amazing series. Unfortunately the series is still being published in Japan, which means I have to wait for the next volumes to be released in America, which can take quite a while. I think I read somewhere there are going to be 13 volumes and I do believe the 12 volume was recently released in Japan and is supposed to be released in America sometime next year. I'm planning on rereading the whole series once the 13th volume is released in America, if that is indeed the final volume.

Kristen | 1392 comments I just reread the first volume and it's just as good as I remember. Nakaba is such a strong character. Everyone totally hates her guts right now, but she's still willing to stand up for what's right and be herself.

I want to ask: am I the only one who is completely in love with the cover of volume one? I adore the scarlet and the teal together. It's also really simple and clear. There's something about the way it was painted, too. Did she use watercolors?

The covers of every volume are beautiful.

One of the things I definitely love about this series is that Nakaba is a strong willed character. She's not a whiny female lead like so many shoujo leads. She's thrown into a hostile world, but instead of crying she does all she can about the situation.

Sinai C. (sinaic) Heh..figures that the thing I focus on most in mangas is the romance. I really ship the MC with her childhood friend/caretaker...AGH, and I just know it won't happen. But it should have...though the age difference is...heh. ^,^"

I haven't read it in a while...I know my interest started trailing off after a few volumes, but she definitely is very strong and I appreciate her for that--but why is everyone else such a huge jerk? The prince, the prince's family--grrr...annoooyance! ^.^ My library skips volumes, so I'll have to wait to continue the series- it's not on my priority-list.

What did you like about it? Characters? Story?

Ali (starnoyume) To selena,
I liked both characters and story, sometimes I felt sad for some of them and sometimes something unexpected or incredible happened!! And you are like --> (°_°)
Also the main character is lovable in her way, she's so beautiful when she get all dressed up ❤️

Juvia (juvia_winter) | 195 comments I. Love. This. Series. The characters are great. The story line and setting are perfect (at least for me- I love fantasy manga). I also loved the artwork. I did not think I was going to love this series as much as I did, but once I started I could not put it down. This has quickly become one of my favorite shojo mangas. And I cannot wait to finish the story with volume 13...it came out this week I think. What a great story.

As always, I'm late to the party :p

I just read volume 1 and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure what to expect from it, but I liked it. The artwork is nice, and so far I like the way they're showing the differences in the two kingdoms' cultures.

I just finished volume 5 of Dawn of Arcana. Nakaba's definitely my favorite character.

One thing I like about this is that the more Nakaba tries to change the future, the more set in stone it becomes. I've always wondered about seeing the future.

What do you guys think? If you knew the future, do you think it's possible to change it? Or is the future you see accounting for all you do (or don't do) to try and change it?
