My short story, "Changes" was published in Zoetrope Literary Magazine last summer, and I've had interest in some of my poetry pretty recently. Still no novels published, but not for lack of trying! :)

Hey, all! My name is Joe and I just joined this group. I live in Northern California, way back in the woods an hour's drive from the closest small town. My partner and I have been together for 32 years. We are both voracious readers but I read mostly fiction and he reads almost exclusively non-fiction. I read queer literature whenever I can get my hands on it. I also read a lot of historical fiction, but really any good novel can capture my interest. I'm glad I found this group!

I like fantasy too, Chris, but prefer stand-alone titles rather than never-ending series. Horror is fun too.

I have placed the October books 'to read' upon my 'Goodreads Bookgroups' shelf and hope very much that I will be able to connect with others members in the Group Reads discussions which follow. Until then I am really enjoying feeling free to browse through some of the other wonderfully-bustling and buzzing with banter discussion boards.
I absolutely agree with you Nancy, that the potential for meeting people here is quite terrific, and the amount of time that can be spent on this site deliciously-excessive!

So true... I'm on most of the social media sites, but this is the only one I really use regularly.
That was Fiona's comment, but I wholeheartedly agree! I had Facebook for a little while and decided to drop it after I developed an unhealthy addiction to some of the games there. Twitter seems like a time-waster to me, and I haven't tried blogging. Some people in my Intro to Management class mentioned Linkedin. I guess it's a social networking site for professionals? I haven't checked it out yet, but I don't like the idea of posting a resume there for the whole world to see.

I hope you're not feeling too overwhelmed, Fiona. I try to tidy up the clutter here and file our books appropriately, but I don't always have the time. I'm going on vacation for two weeks and will have limited internet access, so I'll try to pop in now and then. I'm open to any suggestions for making our group better and easier for people to navigate.
I poked around your bookshelf and see you have some of Marge Piercy's titles. She was one of my favorite authors when I was in my early 20's, but I haven't read any of her work since. I enjoyed the Doris Lessing books I read and need to get to her Children of Violence series.
Hi, all. Although I joined the site a couple of weeks ago, I'm just getting my head wrapped around all of the possibilities.By way of introduction, I'm from Southern Ontario (near Niagara Falls, if that's easier to mentally locate). I'm an avid reader and amateur (so far) author.
Sci-fi, fantasy, and horror probably take up about 90% of my bookshelves, and I'm always looking for new ones with GLBTQ themes. I've been running http://bibrary.com for about a year now, and it's probably the most rewarding project I've ever tackled. Hopefully, getting more involved here will nicely coincide with my efforts there. :)
Welcome, Heathyr! Sci-fi, fantasy and horror are my favorites too and your site sounds like it's right up my alley. The company I work at restricts access to a lot of LGBT and horror sites, so I'll have to wait until I get home to check yours out. Canada is one of my favorite places to visit, though I've only been to Montreal and surrounding areas.

Nancy, you're doing a great job...our shelves aren't at all cluttered :-) I only feel overwhelmed because, like Heathyr, I am trying to get my head wrapped around all of the possibilities for connecting with others whilst also ensuring that I find the time, space and focus so as to continue immersing myself into all of my actual reading!
I welcome fellow newcomer Heathyr also! And was wondering whether either of you, or any other Queereaders group members, might be able/willing to share some thoughts with me on Doris Lessing's 'Canopus in Argos: Archive' series, if indeed you have read any of the five novels...?
nancy, just to clarify, i meant something simliar to what fiona said. i was referring to my experience with feeling a bit overwhelmed with so many possibilities and new resources for finding both books and connecting with people...and with balancing this with reading and everything else.
i get overwhelmed if i go into a new beautiful bookstore with lots of books that look exciting and unfamiliar to me,-it's a thrill, but i don't know where to go first and i end up at first just walking back and forth, with a big grin on my face, but still unable to settle in and really look at anything...just takes a bit of time.
i think you do a great job here, too, nancy.

thank you fiona. i am really touched and happy that something i wrote inspired you. i've just looked at your profile a little bit too, and it is inspiring to me, too. it's like seeing many of my interests reflected, but in an exciting way that you have found different books that i've never heard of. i love your quotes, too. i want to spend more time reading what you've written and looking at your bookshelves.

Aww, thanks, Fiona and Emilie. I was thinking that maybe our topics were too cluttered or it was difficult to find books on the shelves. I'm glad to know that's not the case. :)
Still, I want to tidy up things a little, but I'll have to wait until I return from vacation.
I know what you both mean by feeling overwhelmed, though. Think about all the time spent here that could be used for reading makes me wonder if I'd read more if not for this site. But then again, all the wonderful people I've met here actually motivate me to read more and encourage me to explore different types of books. I love the variety of books that pop up on my update feed every day and find myself constantly adding new titles to my shelf. I also love getting comments from friends and chatting about our books.
Fiona, last time I tried to check your shelf you had a private profile. Has that changed?
I havent't read the Archive series either. The only two books I read by Lessing are The Fifth Child and The Good Terrorist. Both were excellent and very thought-provoking.

Hello again...I just thought I'd drop in on this discussion before I sign out for today; the time has flown by yet I have so much I wish to respond to here.
My profile is set to private, Nancy; well, it frickin' well should be. This issue/discrepancy has been niggling away in my mind somewhat; how ever would you and Emilie be able to view my bookshelves if the privacy feature was functioning correctly? I must resolve this.
I simply must express, in this moment, that it makes me tingle with joy when I spy each of you stacking books upon your shelves which you have clearly discovered on my own; I am wondering whether you feel similarly when you find that your reading preferences and reviews leave an impression upon others?
Nancy, I anticipate that you will have an enjoyable holiday; It'll be wonderful for you and I to be able to connect and converse more upon your return.

fiona-i don't know much about the privacy settings. i think you'd need to go to one of the goodreads feedback groups or something to ask them, maybe?
though the first time i checked your profile too, it was set to private, and then it wasn't (like nancy) ...so
it is possible that when you click to follow reviews it opens up your profile to them?
i would've thought that only shifts when you friend someone, but that is a possible explanation?
yes, i love that too, when i see someone discovering books and authors from my reviews and shelves. it's a joy to feel that i am leaving an impression and leading someone to something beautiful and inspiring that they might not have found.
