Caolán (caolanmurray) | 41 comments Oh good, I think I'll join in with the Jamaica Inn readalong then. I've read that it has quite a gothic feel to it, which intrigues me.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Just another headsup that Jamaica Inn is the DDM readalong for March. I know some of you have been waiting for this one :)

If there are lots of people we could start a new thread, or just keep on this one if you like.

Pink I'm very much looking forward to starting Jamaica Inn.

Are you planning on having a du Maurier book for May or June, or having a break for these couple of months? I'd still really like to read Frenchman's Creek and The Birds if anyone else is interested, or I don't mind continuing after our July read of The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë and having another vote for those who want to continue?!?

My copy is sitting on my nightstand, waiting.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Well I fancied having a break for at least one month - but on the other hand I don't want to read Frenchman's Creek again at all. Do you want to see if anyone else does, Pink? That would suit me very well :)

Anyone fancy reading "Frenchman's Creek" in May?

I would.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Great! Shall I just leave this open here until after the weekend, and then ask Leslie to add it to the readalongs? Others can still join in then as well afterwards if you like :)

message 158: by Pink (new)

Pink That sounds good to me Jean :)

message 159: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) I've had Jamaica Inn out for a while waiting for the readalong. Actually rather looking forward to it.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Great that you'll be joining in Holly! :)

Anyone else for Frenchman's Creek in May?

message 161: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) OK, I have asked for Frenchman's Creek to be added to the official readalongs list now. Just Pink and Katherine so far.

I'm also debating whether to read Myself When Young which has just come down in price on kindle (to £4.35, so it's still not a brilliant deal!) Anyone else interested in that? There are other biographies of her - and a couple of further autobiographies - but this is supposed to reveal the "making" of her as a writer.

Katherine | 59 comments Is anyone still planning on reading (or finished reading) Jamaica Inn?

message 163: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I hope so Katherine! And I hope you'll all post your thoughts here. (Or start a new thread of course, if you feel chatty enough!) I still hope get to this one in about 2 weeks' time :)

message 164: by Pink (new)

Pink I'll definitely be reading Jamaica Inn sometime in March, not sure exactly when yet, but hope to start soon :)

message 165: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Maybe quite a few of us will be reading it later in the month then :)

message 166: by Pink (new)

Pink Has anyone picked up Jamaica Inn yet? Nearly the end of the month, but I still haven't got around to it yet, oops.

message 167: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Hahaha Pink - me neither! I think Katherine said on another thread that she'd finished it, but wasn't keen to post. I wasn't intending to read it, but the idea has grown on me! I thought I'd slip it in at the end, but now I see that Tracey has it on her challenge for June, I'm tempted to join in with it then.

I'm definitely not rereading "Frenchman's Creek" though. Are you and Katherine still intending to go ahead with that in May?

message 168: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ I am hoping to start "the Birds" later today.

message 169: by Pink (new)

Pink Yes I still to plan Frenchman's Creek....just have to get around to this one first!! It's strange but I often put off books that I end up really loving, so fingers crossed for more du Maurier favourites.

I'd like to read The Birds too!!

message 170: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Me too, but I'm finding I prefer to space them out a bit. Great to have people dipping in and out with this though. There are a lot to go at :)

message 171: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 59 comments Pink, as Jean mentioned, I read Jamaica Inn toward the very end of February. Don't know if this will encourage you to pick it up or not, but I liked it more than I did My Cousin Rachel. Granted it's not as sophisticated or subtle, but to my thinking it has more of the specific kind of 'atmosphere' I associate with du Maurier. And it was just plain fun to read!

And yes, I too still have Frenchman's Creek on my reading list for May.

message 172: by Pink (new)

Pink Thanks Katherine, that's good to know. I'll get Jamaica inn read this week, then I'll be ready for Frenchmans Creek by mid April.
