Christina Janssen-Solheim The characters in this book are very well developed without droning on and on about every detail of their existence (An occasional King issue for me). I feel very invested in their outcome. How interesting to FINALLY know what happened to Danny Torrence after he left the Overlook hotel!!! HE'S BACK!

Teresa Kemp I love Stephen King! I'll have to hit this one next. Have you read Under the Dome? It is a good one. Very complex and very LONG but worth it.

Christina Janssen-Solheim I have read it and enjoyed it a lot. Good characters in that one also. The TV version of it has been good also. Did you watch it?

Christina Janssen-Solheim I am a bit over half way through Doctor Sleep and am pretty sure I know how it will turn out, but anxious to actually experience it.

BattyKat I still don't quite understand/get 'Tony'. I know who he was when Danny was a child, sorta. But, as much as they explained in this book, Tony is still a mystery to me. Did I miss something?
I admit, I was so excited to read the book that I kind of plowed thru it. :)

Christina Janssen-Solheim They never really explain who Tony is to my memory. In the shining he was his friend that lived in his mouth and went into his stomach if you tried to see him. I always considered Tony to be Danny's imaginary friend who he used to deal with his "shining" and his abusive/alcoholic father. I feel like due to his shining perhaps Tony kind of did take on a life of his own and that is how Abra detected him in Dan's brain as someone who was safe to talk to. But that is all my own perspective on the situation.

Cindy Ehrenreich Tony was always a part of Danny, like his subconscious. But Danny's abilities turned Tony into a separate personality. His linking to Abra becomes a little clearer in the end.

BattyKat Both of those make sense! :) Thanks!!

Christina Janssen-Solheim Finished the book last night. No huge revelations that you couldn't see coming but still a good read. I like the way King circled things back to Dan's childhood, father, drinking, etc and connected everything. Definitely worth reading.

Sheryl I think it helped a lot that I recently finished reading The Shining before reading this. It was superb. Although this book didn't equal to The Shining, I found it entertaining and it was a great story overall. A lot of reviews mention that it got boring and some had to put it down. If you happen to feel that way right now, I recommend you stick to reading it ;) Of course, I loved the characters, especially Dan and Abra. I think Abra was fantastic.

Amanda I really thought this was one of his best books. I'd always wondered what happened to Dan Torrance and I don't think we could've gotten a better story. I really love how he became an alcoholic like his father but didn't allow it to be the end of him like his father did.

Josh Byrley I personally loved the book. I think there could have been a scarier antagonist. I think it gives justice to "The Shining" in its own way, but I always pictured the sequel to be Danny to be both his best friend and his worst enemy and to follow more into his father's alcoholic madness. The Abra character is another welcomed addition to "The Shining" story. She is both fitting and well written.

I agree with others here that the ending was pretty well telegraphed from about halfway through. It didn't matter though; the characters had become real for me, and I wanted to see how we got to where we were going. SK always writes good, complex characters for me. I even love the way he will spend two pages describing a persons who life history - only to kill them off on page three!
