I think this book was really fast paced. 50+yrs of life covered in a little over 300 pages.
Ichmad is intelligent and is able to bring himself together inspite all odds and work hard.
Ichmad's childhood is full of hardship and tragedies. Yet he is able to go above and beyond them and eventually win a Nobel prize. I hated him when he wouldn't introduce his new wife only because she wasn't upto his standards? That was disgusting for someone who has been portrayed great and humble etc.
Ichmad's father is passive. Inspite of all the tragedies there is nothing really he does to save his family from harm's way. Neither does Ichmad, for that matter. Its appalling that he just leaves his family alone and goes away on his research project.
How does the family live and survive under such hostile situations with no real breadwinner is beyond me!
There are so many details that were skipped and made this book a 3-star vs. a 5-star
Now a few questions from me:-
Why was it necessary for Nora to be an Israeli vs. Palentine? Why was Yasmin portrayed as not pretty? Abbas who was unable to walk in one section suddenly made it to where Ichmad was working? Far too many inconsistencies!
