We have had several different ways of doing a challenge based on a series. Group challenges, individual challenges, challenges where not all the tasks were known at the beginning. So how to make this one different. Well, there are so many wonderfull characters in GoT, so why not do something with them. That is why you all had to list your favorite characters.

Some of you made lists of many characters. Thanks for doing that, but that was a bit unnecessary since I only needed your top 4. But I didn't know that at first and I didn't yet want to give everything away.

I needed your favorite characters since we are all going to be one of the characters for this challenge and by listing your favorites you sealed your fate. :) And in my case Lu sealed my fate and again Lu why o why did you pick that character for me.

We are all going to be the first character on our list that hasn't already been picked by someone else. This means that:
Lu is going to be Daenerys Targaryen
Barbara is going to be Tyrion Lannister
Claudia is going to be Cersei Lannister
Lauren S is going to be Arya Stark
Lauren F is going to be Jaime Lannister
Crusader is going to be Bran Stark
Varla Fiona is going to be Jon Snow
Liezel is going to be Sansa Stark

The character you are is going to influence your tasks. How and why you will see later in the tasks topic.

There is no going back now. The game of thrones is on!

Awesome. Jon Snow is my absolute favourite.

Lol maybe :) But it only took like 2 minutes.

message 6: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith YES! Arya is my favourite!

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Yay! Nothing like only having only one hand and being into incest! The Game for the Whole Family :)

Spoilers Lauren, Spoilers :P

Lauren Smith I was going to say the same thing! But shame, poor Jaime, I came to admire and like him a lot more in book/season 3.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Oh come on we have all seen the show! :)
And yeah I must admit he is growing on me. He seems to be due a little redemption.

message 11: by Lauren (last edited Oct 29, 2013 11:30PM) (new)

Lauren Smith Some people might not have watched season 3 yet, or may stick to the books and haven't read the third.

Jaime's become one of my favourite characters. Also, I think Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is the best-looking man in the show (except when he's covered in mud and blood).

Lol I haven't seen season 3 yet...

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Yeah you are right, no more spoilers. I take it all back. Jaime has 2 hands and has never touched his sister inappropriately with either of them ;)

And I like him too both for being the best looking but mostly because he is one of the few characters(in the show) that is showing real(and convincing) evolution.

Oh no sorry!!

Where have you been?? Under a rock?? Do you need the downloads??
They have already played it through twice on DSTV.

I'm saving them for the holidays. I don't want them to end :(

But don't worry about spoilers with me too much, I know mostly what happens. Other people might not tho.

Yeah, although his relationship with Cersei is... unorthodox, to put it nicely, I actually like how devoted he is to her, and how much he misses he when they're separated for a long time. But you can see major cracks forming in their relationship too. Jaime and Brienne are such an interesting pair too, especially once Jaime reveals more about his past and starts to respect Brienne for her skill and commitment.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
I know I must say I have been dying for season 4 already. That is why I am will in try reading the 1st book again.

I really am sorry :( If it helps any I had the ending of Breaking Bad spoiled for me the other day. So I know how you feel.

I hated it when season 3 ended, because it only covered half the book and I really want to watch the rest play out. I'll have t console myself with rewatches of all the seasons plus DVD commentary.

Yeah his friendship(?) with Brienne with the tipping point for me. I just hope that the show writers don't skip over it too much, I really interested to see where it goes. But I know that they are not exactly sticking to the original story line these days...

I was just wondering; why is everyone talking about the tv show? Hasn't anyone read the books? We are a book club after all. :)

message 21: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I do both :) It's generally easier to talk about the show though - less overwhelming detail, more vivid imagery, and you're more likely to run into someone who's watched the show than read the books.

I read the first 100 or so pages of the 1st book and got bored. I hate! books that spend more time explaining who people are and where they are from then they do showing you what their characters are like and what they are doing (i.e plot). It's just a load of info dump to me. And nothing sends me running faster then a book with a map on the 1st page!!

But as I said I am going to give it another try. Partly inspired by this challenge.

I take it you don't read much epic fantasy then.

It's not so much that the map is there. I would rather (if I was going to read it) it was there then have to try and keep it all straight in my head. But just the fact that it is necessary to have a map it off putting. Obviously some books are exception to this rule.

I haven't watched season 3 yet either. I can't seem to get into in. It might be that I have read all the books so know what is going to happen.

I know. I am sorry. I am trying really hard to post the tasks tonight. The only internet access I have is on my blackberry or at work. The first is not very convenient when you have to type a lot of stuff and the second I am only supposed to use for work purposes.

message 33: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith No worries! I don't mean to rush, I'm just looking forward to seeing the tasks and what the characters will mean for us.

But I like the creative ways in which you've structured these book-themed challenges.

I have bad news. I spent the morning typing everything out so I could copy it on a USB thingy, take it to work and copy and paste it here. After all that work and when you see it you will understand that it is a lot of work I found out that the computer I used has no working usb ports. And also no cd rom writing options. So everything is ready but on the wrong computer. Thursday someone is coming to fix my internet access. So I will post everything on Thursday. I am very sorry.

Barbara, I can relate to computer problems. I can't even turn on my laptop at the moment. Looks like I might have to do a factory reset which means I lose everything since the last time I backed up and all my programs and settings and such like. At least I have my tablet to survive online in the meantime!

Looking forward to Thursday...

message 49: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Thanks you guys for understanding.

I hate factory resets. I have had to do them too several times and it is just no fun.

Right now I am just working with old computers and a bad connection.

If all goes well I will get a huge bonus in December and I have already decided to spend it on a new laptop. Which I hope will mean no more unsolvable computer problems.

I got my computer to start again so at least I can copy everything to my hard drive before I attempt any reset.
