Mark Bordner J., that was a dark and intriguing movie. I wouldn't mind reading that one, either.

T.J. West (tsalcedo) John wrote: "I'm almost done with my nightly read, The Gods of Mars, the second in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series. It's interesting to read scifi that's so old they have something called a "Radio-aerogra..."

That's a great series! The Swedish films are awesome as well as the american.. Hope you enjoy the books!

message 53: by T.J. (new)

T.J. West (tsalcedo) Right now I'm reading "Rome" by Jay Crownover. It's an NA Author..

message 54: by Claire (new)

Claire (cycraw) | 278 comments I'm ploughing my way through the Dresden Files. Don't have too much time to read, so it's going slowly. I read two or three pages a day until I fall asleep.

@Tiffany and people wondered why I avoided using the Stockholm subway :p

message 56: by Stephen (new)

Stephen | 3 comments I've just started Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series. I'm in the middle of Bitten, trying to stay ahead of the TV series.

message 57: by N.C. (new)

N.C. Madigan (nikkimadigan) | 11 comments I'm currently reading a non-fiction called "The Girls of Murder City." It's about the string of murders committed by women in Chicago during the 1920s.

Also reading Aristotle, "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking, and rereading for the zillionth time, "The Goblet of Fire." :-)

message 58: by Agustin (new)

Agustin Guerrero (agustinguerrero) | 37 comments I just finished A Princess of Mars which was a whole lot of fun.

Currently reading the X-Men: Days of Future Past TPB and while the dialogue is a little cheesy, the story is dark and entertaining.

message 59: by Mark (new)

Mark Bordner I'm reading the Andromeda Strain again, love the classics.

message 60: by Ann (new)

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Andromeda Strain is my 'hospital book' whenever I go in and ask someone to grab me a book from my shelf they always get that one for me :p

Gonna have to hide it somewhere...

message 61: by John (new)

John Satisfy | 15 comments Well The Gods of Mars is done, it was an interesting midpoint in the series. Curious where it goes next.

Decided to start "Hardboiled Wonderland and the end of the World" by Murakami. Read the first chapter and curious where the story will go. I really like the shape of the prose, it makes a wonderful dreamlike reality to the tale.

message 62: by T.J. (new)

T.J. West (tsalcedo) I've been reading "Thoughtless" OMG

message 63: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (JessSita) Because I am poor, I am down to the dregs on my To-Read list pile and am currently reading "The City of Glass" by Cassandra Clare. begrudgingly. I think I will download Ksenia Anske's books next and read the Siren Suicide's series next.

I'm currently reading an epic fantasy I was sent for review. When I read the title in the email I thought it was going to be a romance/life drama for somereason. Boy, was I wrong. Quite enjoying it so far :3

I just read an Irish drama called By the Bog of Cats, which I was really digging because of its supernatural elements to it and stuff but then i was very depressed by the ending xp let's just say they don't call it a tragedy for nothing xp

I read two books today, one was indie (review on monday) but I wanted to rant here like I did on twitter.

Traditonally published: ancient greek warrior says his lover smells like Eucalyptus.

Ruined it for me. Ruined it.

message 70: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Michelle | 450 comments Mod
Woooooow smh. How do they let that pass in trad publishing?

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 1053 comments Mod
HAHA Bisky!

For those who wonder:

Eucalyptus tree first appeared in recorded history in 1642... Either the ancient Greek in that book time travelled or...

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Its one of the last books in a series Ive been reading since I was a teenager but I'm really shocked how poorly it's done since it was a huge anticipated release. (Everyone smells the eucalyptus on him, it's getting worse)

I'm too dorky with my knowledge of trees to let that pass.

AJ Salem (aj_salem) | 28 comments Just started Witch World by Christopher Pike.

message 76: by H.C. (new)

H.C. Gray (scribberlings) | 53 comments Reading this thread I suddenly don't feel very well read! I've only heard of the Hunger Games books and Tolkien!

(just a note about Tolkien, there are two towers just down the road from where I live that were his inspiration for the Two Towers book. I marvel at that every time I pass them!)

I am currently reading "SCARED Ten Tales of Horror" continuing to read as much modern horror as possible, especially if written by women.

Reading two indies this week, trying to upload my reviews but internets still sketchy -.- trying to get my hands on American Psycho, I have a copy on my shelf but it's not in English -_-

message 79: by J. David (new)

J. David Clarke (clarketacular) | 418 comments I'm gonna have to make characters smell like Eucalyptus now, just in case Bisky ever reads one of my books. I'll make sure it's in ancient history though, or maybe on a fantasy world where there should be no Eucalyptus trees at all LOL...

message 80: by Ross (new)

Ross Gilfillan (rossgil) | 37 comments Goodbye to a River by John Graves. An elegy to a part of the Bravos River in Texas about to disappear. Graves and his dog canoe it while the author offer thoughts on the sparkling landscape and the sparce population who had lived there Spanish, Saxon and Native American, up to that point. Reminding me of Jonathan Raban.

message 81: by Claire (new)

Claire (cycraw) | 278 comments @Jennifer, I know what you mean. I feel the same way about Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series, which in my opinion is one of the most under-appreciated fantasy series for MG/YA

message 82: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne (adrienne_s) | 10 comments I agree with the Percy Jackson assertion! I like the Heroes of Olympus more, and I can't seem to stop reading them! I'm on House of Hades now.

message 83: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne (adrienne_s) | 10 comments I read Divergent. It was all right. I have Insurgent, I just haven't started it yet. I am also reading a fairy tale spin-off called The School for Good and Evil. It's incredible! It's better than I expected it to be!

message 84: by James (new)

James Caterino (jimcaterino) | 37 comments I have been reading "The Clan of the Cave Bear". It is sort of a prehistoric soap opera. Very detailed and descriptive writing, sometimes at the expense of pace, but I have been enjoying it quite a bit. As a student of anthropology the scientific accuracy is very impressive and most of what the author just imagined has turned out to be confirmed by DNA science.

message 88: by Dionne (new)

Dionne | 68 comments I'm reading an ebook I bought over at Smashwords.com entitled Percival Strange and the Lonely Manor by James Somers. I think he's an interesting writer and so I'd bought a few of his books. They were really good. So I'm presently reading this one as well and its just as good. haha

Suzanne Hartwick I'm sitting in Discount Tire right now reading On Writing, by Stephen King. But I'm thinking about switching from this meta text to something more immersive because I have a long wait in front of me.

Claire (cycraw) | 278 comments I just got a few books from Amazon, so I'm starting on them. Right now I'm reading Eoin Colfer's new series, WARP. So far I like it. I also bought his adult novel 'Plugged'.
After I'm done with those two, I'm gonna curl up with Jinx (Middle Grade novel) by Sage Blackwood. Hope it's good.

I'm (kind of) reading two books at the same time at the moment. I say kind of because I haven't touched either of them much this week.

One I won in a goodreads giveaway but I don't think it's self pub. No self pub has that kind of money to put in a giveway... That one had 100 winners but each winner received two copies of the book. One for them, one for a friend. It's called Iced by Karen Marie Moning.

The other is a book someone approached me for a review. I'm not mentioning it because I have mixed feelings about it so far. The idea is good but it's a translation and well... it shows. I can almost hear the accents in the dialogues. :P I'm sure I'll get past it. I'm still at the beginning. I just need to get used to it I guess.

message 97: by J. David (new)

J. David Clarke (clarketacular) | 418 comments Recently finished Doctor Sleep by King and have moved on to an indie novel by friend and author Krista Walsh. It's called Evensong and it plays on the old idea of a writer's characters and world being a real place and people and he gets transported there. But it's quite good at subverting the old tropes and having the story be different than one you've read before. It turns out the world he created in his writing has spun off in completely different directions than he ever knew and they have learned about him and summoned him there to help. Clever and fun reading.
