Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
discussion
Favorite book in the ENTIRE series and WHY...
My favourite would have to be Prisoner of Azkaban. It introduces two of my absolute favourite characters (Lupin and Sirius), I loved all the stuff about the marauders, but I think mainly its my favourite book because it doesn't involve a confrontation with Voldemort (in some form) at the end of the book and for me it really kicks off the overall conflict :)
That is a really hard question bc I have to decide between my two favorite characters!I would say Chamber of Secrets bc that is when we meet Dobby. As well as The Order of the Phoenix bc that is when we meet Luna Lovegood!
My favorite is Prisoner of Azkaban. It was really nice to see Harry get a father figure in Sirius. And I love time travel so the elements of the story involving the time turner were intriguing to me.
That would be the Chamber of Secrets. I think it has a unique aura of mystery, especially in these parts when Harry is trying to understand to whom the bodiless voice belongs.
Order of phoenix has always been my favourite. As previously mentioned, you meet Luna and it also seems to get a little bit darker but not quite as dark as the half blood prince. Plus there was the introduction of umbridge who was a fantastic villain!
Half-Blood Prince!!! it was shocking, devastating...and it was where Voldemort really started to exist as "The Dark Lord" a real threat, i mean not just as a side show, a bitter old has-been who got pwnd over and over...and its where we get to understand Snape a bit better...and i loved that it was sort of a cliffhanger.
I think the fifth is my favourite, it seems to turn out to be the entire shaping point of the whole story for me.

I love how we really get to know Voldemort as a character with real motivations, not just a cackling evil villain who only exists to antagonise the hero. I loved re-reading this knowing the ending as well, because it makes Snape's story all the more tragic. And it always brings a tear to my eye when Harry tells Dumbledore he agreed when Scrimgeour called him 'Dumbledore's man through and through'!
I think that the best book in the series was Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets because I thought that the balisk was really cool. I also thought that is was cool how it was almost like a mystery trying to figure out out unleashed the chamber of secrets. . . Sooo cool!!
I can't decide between The Chamber of Secrets and The Goblet of FireThe Chamber of Secrets feels more connected to me, because Ginny is introduced(kind of). Also, they introduce Tom Riddle.
The Goblet of Fire the story plot really starts to get exciting, with at the end, Harry meeting Voldemort in full form.
Chamber of Secrets is also my favorite! :] I love that it's more of a mystery than the other books. It also is still on a smaller scale than some of the later books - there's a lot at stake, but really everything takes place at Hogwarts. The kids are also still young, not even teenagers yet, so they're not angsty or emo or anything (I mean, I understand why they would be, but it's annoying to read, imo). The earlier books were just more *fun* than the later ones.
I love Goblet of Fire, it's just awesome-- I mean, they fight dragons and swim in the Black Lake and Voldemort returns, so it's a new landmark-- the battle has begun.
The Goblet of Fire would be my favourite. Followed closely by The Prisoners of Azkaban. I like the Goblet of Fire because it's the first time they really face Voldemort for the first time. Also, I like all the bit about the Triwizards tournament.
AgCl wrote: "Half-Blood Prince!!! it was shocking, devastating...and it was where Voldemort really started to exist as "The Dark Lord" a real threat, i mean not just as a side show, a bitter old has-been who go..."agreed completely.
Mine would be The Chamber Of Secrets.Maybe because it was the 1st HP book I read (I skipped Philosopher's Stone) and it was because of chamber of secrets that my love for the HP books started to grow.
Although the movie could have been a bit better!
My favoorite movie, however - would probably be Prisoner Of Azkaban. Which is funny because prisoner of Azkaban is my least favourite book out of the series! lol
My favorite is Deathly Hallows :) It makes me really happy that the three friends are together all the time (well most of the time but whatever) and I love myself a happy ending :)
Deathly Hallows simply because it brought everything full circle, even the tiny little details that were mentioned in the earlier books but were overlooked until then. For instance, the back story between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, which is given a brief mention in Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone and not really brought up again until the last book.
The Goblet of Fire. It's the last book in the HP series that I really enjoyed. The books that came afterward were interesting enough to read, and the conclusion of the series was satisfactory, but I found myself not enjoying the fifth, sixth, and seventh books as much as the first four. This is just my opinion, however.
It'd be either the Goblet of Fire or the Prisoner of Azkaban. There's so much action in those two and they kept me reading more than any of the others.
Half Blood Prince. That's some serious storytelling. Everything with the prime minister and the minister for magic, Voldemort's life story, Slughorn adding more to their social interactions, then finding out who the titular half blood prince is after it seeming to be Voldemort. My 2nd favorite is Goblet of Fire. I liked seeing the larger wizarding world with the world cup and the triwizard tournament and of course CEDRIC DIGGORY!
Sherry wrote: "Goblet of Fire, where the two sides really meet. I love the innocence meets darkness."I have to completely agree that Goblet of Fire has so much going on in that book, and its where everything really takes a turn in the entire series.
The Order of the Phoenix. It represents a real ramping up of the conflict between between good and evil as something with real ramifications. The introduction of Luna, of course. And Umbridge, who is a wonderfully complex and truly diabolical (to the point of being literally Satanic... Theologically educated Christians will know what I mean by this) antagonist.
If OotP had only Umbridge working to its good, it would still tip the scales for me. A wholly complete, clever, and thorough malevolence, masquerading as a matronly, senile, benevolence. I have yet to find a better antagonist in any story outside Scripture. Rowling surely patterned Umbridge after Satan himself.
The Goblet of Fire, because I could appreciate the structure as well as the clear, concise storytelling. The ending was also pretty unexpected.
The Order of the Phoenix. Harry learns what true friendship means when people he thought he could trust turn on him while others come through. Also we get to meet Luna and see Neville really shine!
Mine would definitely have to be Prisoner of Azkaban. I thought it was very clever the way JKR tied everything together at the end. It was probably one of her most creative moments (in my opinion).
I love them all, but my favorite would have to be The Order of the Phoenix. It had so much detail that the movie missed out on. Neville and his mother giving him the gum wrapper at St. Mungo's hospital is one of my favorite parts. Very touching.
I loved the Goblet of Fire, it had the most suspense I think and kept me the most interested. I loved the entire series but this one was my favorite...
The Deathly Hallows or The Half Blood Prince- Harry, Hermione, Ron, Neville, Luna, Ginny, Hagrid, Dumbledore, and the rest of the Weasley's just really made the whole entire story (for both of the 6th and 7th books.) The story line got a lot more serious. We see some underdog characters kick some ass, and everything had gone into complete chaos. Characters we never expected to play a part in the final book did, and I admired Rowling for that! I felt that the writing in the 6th book became a lot more serious and well-written, and it was just amazing.
Theres a 3 way tie for me, the first Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, because it is the first, and started my love for the series. Harry potter and the prisoner of Azkaban because things start changing for Harry and become more personal for him especially since we get introduced to Sirius ( one of my favorite characters). Lastly the Deathly Hallows, its climatic you never know whats going to happen, it finally wraps up some unanswered questions. But mostly because everyone gets to see and understand that other side to Severus Snape, he was always a favorite of mine and his secret personality only added to my adoration. He really was a great man, and a teacher to his last.
All 7 are amazing, but I think I would have to pick the Deathly Hallows because of the incredible ending. Rowling wrapped everything up so well that instead of the "book depression" I expected at the end, I was only thrilled with how well she balanced drama, emotion (but not too much of it) sacrifice, moral undertones, and any dangling loose threads in a fresh and satisfying way. So naturally, I promptly began to re-read the series and found that finishing it wasn't so bad after all. :)
Half-Blood Prince. I love how we get to know more about Voldemort. I felt that it was the most interesting and the ending just blew me away.
The best book by far in the series - the one where you really think, this is something special - is Goblet of Fire. But it's also, sadly, the one after which the whole series takes a turn for the worse. The last 3 books needed serious editing.
The Prisoner of Azkaban because it changes everything we thought true in the story about Sirius- and Scabbers Oh My G I did not see that coming! :-( This book prepared me for future surprises and twists like help me to trust Snape, because I knew from this book on to be careful of what you believe and are told.
Mines the Prisoner of Azkaban because my favorite character in the series is Serious Black:) I loved that Harry had a fatherly figure in this book because it showed a whole new level of love Harry has for family.
Definitely the Deathly Hallows. It's so dramatic and intense, and, of course, it's the last book, so everything is explained then and the most touching parts are in there.
Prisoner of Azkaban was the best book. It has got all the ingredients that make a great book. All the characters were lovable. But if we have to judge Rowling's prowess as a writer It will always be Deathly Hallows
Prisoner of Azkaban. this book have all who i love of the saga. and have a this family love whith sirius and harry
The Prisoner of Azkaban, because it has great new characters, an interesting twist, and time-traveling. But the Order of the Phoenix comes in second because it is very funny, adventurous, and different from the first four. They're all amazing, but these are my favorites.
Sorcerer's Stone, because it was one of the harder books I'd ever picked up, plus all the magic and the growing friendships.
It's a tie between The prisoner of Azkaban and The order of the phoenix. The first of them because there are very interesting and unsuspected twists in it. And also because two of my absolute favorite characters are introduced, Sirius and Lupin of course.
The latter because it's where Harry gets to take on even more responsibility and the series take a darker turn.
None of them... JK Rowling copied The Lord of the Rings like there was no tomorrow. I'm more Lord of the Rings/Narnia/Calvin and Hobbes
