Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments It had the elements of a period drama so I liked that part, but not all that much happened til the last 15 minutes, and even that wasn't much. Why do they insist on stretching out shows and make them boring?
And the awful American accent, ugh. I had high hopes for this one too and now I don't know if it'll ever be realized. I'll give it a few eps and see what they do with it.

Kellyflower | 133 comments My mom said the same thing Jackie. I'm going to try and watch it later tonight.

message 3: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments It is just the first ep, and I don't expect them to be great, mainly because they have to spend time on setting up. It has such potential.

message 4: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtneyclift) | 924 comments That accent is terrible and drive me crazy entire episode. Jonathan Rys-whatever is Irish and with all other accents lightly British, I am sure the powers that be thought American accent would better fit for American TV. It obviously didn't.

message 5: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments The one reason I could think for a non-British accent is that the aristocracy all know each other, they'd know he wasn't of their lineage or privilege, but that doesn't mean he had to be American. He could easily have been a commoner from anywhere in the UK or Europe.

message 6: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (kheckart) | 456 comments I feel the same way. I need to see a couple of more episodes. But I did like it. I just wasn't crazy about it. I think the American accent is to hide his identity and really confuse his enemies. He has such a sexy Irish accent. I was hoping to hear that. lol

message 7: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments I agree on the why of the accent, I just don't think it had to be American. So many lovely accents to choose from. I'm partial to the Irish and Scottish accents myself, lol

♡Karlyn P♡ (karlynp) | 73 comments I thought it OK, But I wasn't fond of the actor who played Dracula. He wasn't that convincing to me. But I love that it is set in the late 1800s London, and the story left me intrigued enough to want to watch a few more.

Mary (giesela1000) | 5 comments I have mixed feelings.
I love Jonathan Rys Meyers but I don't know whether he as the best casting as far as the vampire part, although i think he is good. He will bring the sexy though:) I hope this doesn't hurt his career if it doesn't go well.

I love the production values - great sets, great gowns, looks very HBO expensive.;

One the one hand I'm intrigued by the writing; the whole destroy the petroleum industry with some sort of alternative light (do they know it doesn't work and are just trying to use it long enough to destroy the cartel or do they think its really new technology? Was this at one time thought to be a new replacement for oil? Is it based in fact? To bad they didn't suceed! LOL) The fact that he an Van Helsing are in cahoots but for different reasons and don't like each other, are all interesting twists.
The cartel thing and the vengence vs. the cartel thing leave me lukewarm though for some reason. I've been mad and held some grudges but the vengence beyond all reason thing just doesn't seem that realistic. I actually prefer Van Helsing's more humanitarian reasons............

message 10: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments I found the alternative light boring, I simply do not care. Maybe if they introduced it later as a side story but I thought it ruined the first episode. Well, not ruined, that's too strong a word, but you get the gist. It was a poor 'hook'.

I did like that part about VH working with Dracula. I want to see some scary Dracula, I'm sick of sexy vampires. I want my vamps to scare to pants off me, not be invited to take them off, lol I grew up with the old B&W horror movies, scary and creepy, that's what I'm looking for in my horror. If this is sexy vamp, then it's really gonna suck for me.

I loved the sets and costumes but that alone cannot carry a show for me. I can only hope the next few episodes have more to offer me.

message 11: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (kheckart) | 456 comments Yeah, maybe Dracula just put on that one-time show to impress the petroleum giants. I doubt that is his main goal--to destroy the oil industry. I think he is out for revenge for something done to him in the past, probably by the ancestors of these people.
It is interesting that he and Van Helsing are working together.
I'm hoping the story gets better. I loved the classic Dracula and I don't mind them playing with that story a bit, but too much play and they will ruin the story.

message 12: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Yes, all that is established, the Order killed his wife, the elite rich he's going after now are part of that same Order. I'm just not feeling it, I have no emotional investment.

message 13: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Second episode was much better.

message 14: by Kellyflower (last edited Nov 02, 2013 03:19PM) (new)

Kellyflower | 133 comments The main reason I'm watching is because of my past obsession with The Tudors. There's something about when Jonathan Rhys Meyers gets angry.

Things I don't like:
The Music! OMG I feel like I'm watching Tron or The Blade Runner.
~ When "Dracula" is pretending to be an American he sounds like Christian Slater, it's throwing me off.
~ I also dislike that the actress playing "Lucy" is trying very hard to look like Keira Knightly.

Other then that it's okay. I'm not sure it's gonna have a huge fan base.

message 15: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments The Lucy actress was also Morgana on Merlin, I couldn't stand her and just seeing her face pisses me off, lol

I loved The Tudors, and JRM.

LOL Jackie!

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments She was such a bitch! lol
Same with the one who played Anne Boleyn on the Tudors, arggh, I'd punch her if I ever met her, lol

I know how crazy I sound, but I can't help it.

Jackie her little sideways smirk drives me crazy!!

message 19: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Have you seen her as Margaery in Game of Thrones, same nasty smirk. I think it's glued on because she has it in every thing I've ever seen her in, lol

message 20: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Dracula has gotten so much better, I'm really taking a liking to certain characters, Renfield top among them. Tonight's episode was excellent in showing the loyal relationship between Renfield and Grayson goes both ways.

message 21: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (kheckart) | 456 comments I'm liking it better too. I like how Dracula has seduced that female hunter. Does anyone get the feeling that Lucy is gay and in love with Mina? I like Renfield in this version.

message 22: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments Lucy, definitely.

message 23: by Timothy (new)

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 599 comments Nice if she is I hope she goes after lady jane she is hot. Now is it me or did she get jealous during grayson's big dance ;)

message 24: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments She absolutely got jealous and so did Harker.

message 25: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4961 comments I'm bored of TV, I'm whittling down my enormous time-consuming DVR list. Dracula hasn't moved forward, I don't care about anyone in the show, I deleted it.

message 27: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (kheckart) | 456 comments I thought Dracula's temper tantrum was strange and not very appealing to me. You would think if he is an ancient vampire he would be able to control his emotions. I thought he was going to kill Renfield. I'm not really impressed with the series. I may stick it out since it will end soon. I think I keep waiting for something great to happen.
