Hey guys! Post what you want us to talk about on the hangout next week about our books, Dark Currents, and Autumn Bones, or life or whatever!

EDIT: SUPERNATURAL IS at 9PM NOT 8PM I AM STUPID. SO it's basically at the same time. Please carry on, sigh.

I need to live tweet my Supernatural episode because the rest of the cast has been doing it and I'm a total follower, and it's back to back scheduled now, so we're gonna push an hour so I can do both! Sorry to Europe, I guess we owe you a few :)

Alicia (jadewolf) | 57 comments First off, I have a completely new level of respect for what you (Felicia) do with your work on Geek and Sundry. I am in school right now and taking a horror/sci-fi class, for fun, I'm a biology major and we just finished a tiny horror short for our class project. OMG! We all have no experience, and its not like it looks in the Movies!

Where do I (as a complete novice) learn to make something decent?

I love the guild, and table top and would love to do stuff like that with my friends.

Second Question:
If you (all the ladies) had a tail, what kind of tail would it be?

message 3: by Frakki (new)

Frakki Karu | 509 comments In many of the fantasy books we've read, the women who are immortal physically age out in there early to mid twenties. In this book, the immortal snake woman was said to look 27.

My question is, if immortal, at what age would you want to lock in at and why?

Personally, I would want to be at least 33 or 36.

message 4: by Ihabkahnung (new)

Ihabkahnung | 4 comments i really want to know if Jaqueline Carey employs a real shitty ghostwriter.

This is not the JC from Kushiel. And even if this is trying to switch genres. don't. the urban style doesnt suit her.

And everytime some flowery term comes up in a Kushiel manner it is truly misplaced in this Michiganderian world building attempt.

Petra Eichlerová | 9 comments Europe is satisfied with the shift - it's better to watch VF at 5am instead of 4am ;)

message 6: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Yeah, as an Atlantic Canadian I'm actually pretty jealous of the Europeans. I could wake up at 5 am more easily than staying up until 2:15ish. I just have something to look forward to on Wednesdays instead.

Minsta | 93 comments There is going to be a run on caffeinated drinks all along the east coast on Tuesday night!:)

Comments and a question about Dark Currents:

1) Nothing wrong with ramen for dinner, even for those of us who have not seen our 20's in awhile.
2) I want one of Mrs. Browne's cinnamon buns!
3) Question - I like Daisy's use of visualization to control her anger (ie, pouring it out of a cup, or wrapping it up in a package and throwing it away). I use similar visualizations to get rid of negative thoughts. Do any of you use visualization tricks to control unwanted emotional reactions or thoughts?
4) Instead of a tail, I would have preferred that she had wings. Even Daisy admitted to wanting them!

Mr. Wakiki | 1 comments Which day.... ?

I looked at the events and didn't see a listing..

Amber (puresurplus) | 53 comments If you were an ancient deity (like Hel) and banished from your homeland, which god/goddess would you be and where would you relocate? I'm thinking the answers will NOT be Michigan related.

message 10: by Renee (new)

Renee | 17 comments Now that we have read two separate genres (fantasy and urban fantasy) from the same author, which do you prefer?

I personally love the setting in novels like the Hel and Dresden series, but I'm not sure it sets up for the epic romance like fantasy does. I just can't picture a Phedre/Joseline type match in this series (though I'm hoping!)

message 11: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (chewbecca) 1. A lot of people had an issue with the vocabulary, but I was fine with it. Some characters drink a certain drink, some have daddy issues, etc.....this character happens to have a good memory when it comes to her teacher's vocabulary lessons. I don't see why it's a big deal that she enjoys using those words. How did y'all feel about it?

2. I didn't notice the use of the word "gah" at all until people started complaining about it, then I noticed it every time she said it. Sometimes I feel like people get annoyed at such silly things. :)

3. I love how Carey researches everything before she writes her book. An example from this book is the legend of the buried mill

(I'm sure everyone already knows that Pemkowet is based on Saugatuck, MI. I'm usually late to the party, including using the phrase "late to the party", lol)

message 12: by Amber (new)

Amber (puresurplus) | 53 comments Also, how did you picture Daisy's tail? I thought of it as a fleshy yet shorter than average demonish appendage with a spaded end plus a landing strip!

Och, this is a good question, I don't know why, but I see her tail as a tail of poodle...it's a funny vision ;)

message 14: by Melinda (new)

Melinda VanLone | 51 comments I really enjoyed this story as a nice escape and a bit of relaxation. I liked Kusheil's Dart ok, but the language was difficult to weed through. I found this much more enjoyable just from a relaxation stand point.

That said, did the fact that we'd read something with more flowery language put y'all off of this story at all? Were you disappointed, or relieved, that the writing was different?

message 15: by Serendi (new)

Serendi So you're live-tweeting it for the West Coast? (I need to set the DVR, in any event.)

message 16: by Kelaine (new)

Kelaine | 31 comments I love JC and I enjoy both high-fantasy and urban fantasy. Given the craziness of this month, I was super happy with something lighter.

I have wondered before about the longevity of urban fantasy. Do you think that the high-fantasy will have a longer shelf life, so to speak? The urban fantasy is riddled with very 'now' kind of references. i.e. facebook.

Will this even be understood 20 or 100 years from now?

If someone picked up Kushiel's Dart 100 years from now, because all the references are internal, I don't feel it would lose meaning and relevance in quite the same way.

Does it matter? Can a book be for just this time in history? Does it need to stand the test of time to have worth?

message 17: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 38 comments ^^^ I second that question. I was wondering that a bit myself more than once while reading these.

message 18: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments For those who loved the book (not me), did it diminish the story at all that the heroine, with her BA dagger, ended up bound and helpless for the final battle? Did it matter at all that she had to wait for the cavalry to come rushing in to save her, especially since she was attempting to escape the situation using her wits alone to cause discord?

message 19: by Gary (new)

Gary If you were going to worship or follow an ancient god/goddess, which one would you pick?

Or which pantheon (Greek, Norse, Cthulhu, Tiki...) would be your faith?

message 20: by Izzy (new)

Izzy (lepetitegeneral) | 48 comments What did you think of Carey basing the location off a real place versus Kushiel's fantasy setting? Was it easier for you to imagine how a town in Michigan would look?

I personally has a super easy time since I lived in Grand Haven,MI at one point and kinda just visualized Pemkowet as that town.

I thought of it kinda like a draenei tail.
