Rylee wrote: "It is kind of confusing. She did Graguate (spelling?) from BYU but she uses bad language in the book. She might be inactive."

The sad thing is, lots of LDS people choose to use bad language. She might still be active but just isn't choosing to portray that through her books or language. I've seen lots of kids that I know are LDS drop the F-bomb and stuff, and it makes me sad.

message 255: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (thellenator) yeah.
there's a girl that was in my seminary class last year. and she got baptized last year, but she swears like there is no tomorrow. it makes me sad.

message 256: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (thellenator) THAT'S GREAT:)

message 257: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (thellenator) DUDE, IT'S ABSOLUTELY FINE TO TALK ABOUT CRUSHES:)
AND THAT IS WIERD THAT HE WOULD DO THAT...BOYS ARE WIERD...

BUT THAT'S A GOOD SCRIPTURE, I LIKE IT:)

I've had some serious guy issues. Every guy I've liked except one has been LDS, but they've all turned out to be jerks (sorry, but it's kind of true) once they got past sixth grade. One of them is only 14, like me, and he's always dating other girls and the one that I sorta like right now swears (that was because of the play we were doing, but still...). I have a pathetic "like" life. =\

Hope Maybe she is a Mormon but that doesn't mean that she's active. I would hope that people who read her books don't think of mormons as being like Bella! She would be a very bad representative.

Hope wrote: "Maybe she is a Mormon but that doesn't mean that she's active. I would hope that people who read her books don't think of mormons as being like Bella! She would be a very bad representative. "

Tell me about it.

message 265: by Hope (new)

Hope I sure hope that the people in her books don't have the same standards as her! I agree with Jess on the first page, where she said that it had a great plot and idea but she ruined it with the immorality, another thing that puts a downer on it, is the swearing. I have no desire to ever read the series again.

message 266: by [deleted user] (new)

The story was boring to me so....

message 267: by [deleted user] (new)

Brittany wrote: "wow. i write too much."

Nah.

But I see what you mean. There are lots of people like that, unfortunately. Maybe they just think some parts of the gospel don't apply to them. I don't know, but it's sad. =[

message 268: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (JourneyStar) | 56 comments Well, Brittany, I don't mean to sound like a nag but maybe you shouldn't be too worried about boy's, you don't always have to have a crush, and the way you're talking about it makes it sound like you act like you crush is your boyfriend. I'm not telling you to not have crushes, because quite frankly that's impossible, but I am telling you to keep being friends with that boy, your influence and criticism on what he does may change him so that he doesn't ruin his life. And don't say that you'll never have a crush on him again because if he does change for the better that may change as well. Once we learn how to overcome peer pressure we're twice a better person than we are before, and I'm pretty sure that the reason he swore was he thought that other kids would think it was cool. Just stick to him, and try to remind him what is important in life, and yeah, I know boys are stupid and the most thickheaded thing on the planet but you can brake through that. and don't be afraid to tell him what you think of his swearing, he needs to know.

Brittany wrote: "i hate it SO MUCH when mormons set a bad example for the church because thats the FIRST THING nonmormons say is that "wait, if you believe in moral standards, why does that guy do this" and stuff. ..."

Yeah. In my elementary school, there was this one girl who went out with almost all of the guys in her class. In 5th grade! everybody else thought that was weird. and then we go to 6th grade in a new school, and EVERYBODY is going out on dates!

There's this one girl who is pretty much a model. she has all of the guys falling at her feet, and i really hate her. But what i hate most is that guys like her not just because of her looks, but because she is rich! what losers!

Well, i had this friend (and, okay, i still kinda have a crush on him) and we used to be really good friends. and then we go to middle shcool, and he starts going out with her, and like six other girls! (not at the same time) And apparently at her elementary school, all of the fifth graders were dating. then all of the schools in the county combine, so everybody else sees her example, and... yeah you get it. and also, about 75% of my school is LDS.

there are like 6 kids in my school (me included) that don't date. and it's mostly because of her example. (ps. she is LDS, too) because everybody wants to be like emma, they all start going out. i've even been asked out by complete strangers (and believe me, i am not the kind of person somebody would want to go out with) so they could join the club and go with the crowd. GRR!!!

Jayda I love Twilight and Stephenie Meyer :) ♥

Kayti (kaytigrace22) Callie wrote "Stephenie Meyer is a mormon. She had an interview in the church news. You'd never know it from reading her books though! They have a lot of questionable things. She said that all the charcaters have her values even though there is no mention of religion"

I think almost the whole series has questionable things in it. I don't think anyone of the characters have values.

message 274: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I think that they do have values.

Don't trust everything you read on wikipedia :) Anyone can edit the information. But it is true - she is LDS.

I don't think that she put the swearing in her books herself. Editors and publishers have a lot of say, depending on the contracts she signed, on what goes in books and what's taken out. I don't think she would've put the swearing in there.

Although, I do swear sometimes, on accident. It's a slip up, because I used to swear all the time.

Yeah, I have to admit that I sometimes have a really strong urge to swear. That only happens when I'm really mad. I just scream "BARNACLES!" instead, though. It helps. Hahaha.

message 277: by Jayda (new)

Jayda Haha :) I don't know why I slip. I just do. Most of the time I have a good resistance to it, but it just slips out sometimes! My mom slips, too, so it's a struggle we have to work on.

Yeagh. But the editor can say things about that.

And Jayda. Meyer may have values and maybe her characters do to, but what about the sexual immorality stuff and " I am a vampire and immortal," isn't that against God and everything we the church beliefs in?

message 279: by Jayda (new)

Jayda The editors can put what they want in there. The editors aren't Mormon, so I'm assuming that they probably cuss.

Sexual immorality? They waited until they were married to have sex, and even though Bella wanted to have sex before marriage they didn't. And it's fiction. Vampires are immortal, but they aren't real because it's fiction. I've written vampire books... am I going against the church?

message 280: by [deleted user] (new)

Let's not get into an argument over Twilight, please. *gets down on knees and begs* Some of the values in the books don't agree with out beliefs, but we can't change anything Stephenie Meyer has or hasn't written.

I'd just give up on that plead. i tried to earlier but it just started up again after they had stopped.

message 282: by Kayti (last edited Apr 17, 2010 02:07PM) (new)

Kayti (kaytigrace22) I really don't want to get in a fight Jayda. I am just trying to really voice my opinions.

But it she was thinking it, Why not wait till after you're married before even thinking about it. I know we are all human and thoughts can pop up, but we should really try to keep them out.

I really just think that they Twilight series shouldn't be such a big thing in the church, and with young girls, I know a little girl that is 9 and she read them. Should that be a thing that 9 year olds should be thinking about, I don't even like to think about it. I have read the first 3 and part of the 4th . So I know what is in them.

I agree with you Maxy we should ask our Heavenly Father if this is really what we should be reading, and putting into our heads.

That is cool that you really like Twilight, Jayda. But not me.
