Quarterback Walk - On, by Thomas J. Dygard is a great novel for juniors. This book is about a college football team, the Sutton State Cowboys. When the first - string quarterback is suspended and then second and third - string quarterbacks are injured, the team is forced to rely on Denny Westbrook, their fourth - string quarterback.
The Cowboys hold little hope and a small chance of being victorious with Denny at the helm. Denny lacks size and physical ability to throw bullet passes or run the ball, and has never played in a game in his three years at Sutton State. After devising a plan, the team secretly practices every night. The Cowboy's plan was successful, but near the end, their opponents scored a touchdown to make them trail 14 - 9. Sutton State is forced to score a touchdown. After a quick kick, they are able to run the ball into the end zone and as a result, the Sutton State Cowboys come out on top, 16 - 9.
I enjoyed the book Quarterback Walk - On, because sports is one of my favorite genres. Thomas J. Dygard throws many twists and turns into this novel to make it exciting and hard to predict what is coming next.
