Félix (habitseven) Burnett County (WI) - A bear cub is now free as a bird, thanks to the efforts of a Burnett County landowner and the DNR. A cub had its head stuck in a bird feeder and this was no temporary problem.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I just want to give him a hug (after taking off the bird feeder... possibly before doing that, too).

I wish we had a whole topic category called "Unbearable:"

I'd put Florida and squeaky windshield wipers in there. And foot itches.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I would wear body armor, if necessary.

Besides, brothers gotta hug.

Body armor would be an example of something I find unbearable.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments OH! I'm sure they conspired to get it off. Go bear cub! Go bear mom!:

Burnett County (WQOW) - A bear cub is now free as a bird, thanks to the efforts of a Burnett County landowner and the DNR. A cub had its head stuck in a bird feeder and this was no temporary problem.

The landowner called the DNR last weekend when they first saw the bear near Grantsburg.

DNR officers responded, but the mother was very protective and wouldn't let them get close. Despite the bucket on its head, the cub could still climb a tree, so it proved to be elusive.

Since the DNR was concerned the cub wasn't able to eat or drink, it set up a trap to catch mom so it could focus on rescuing the cub. One night this week, the trap not only caught her but the cub as well.

In fact, the next day when they were discovered in the trap, the bird feeder was found next to them, in pieces. One theory is that mom chewed the bucket off; another is that a hook on the end of the feeder was caught in the trap, which made it easier for the cub to be freed.

The bears were then released into the woods.

I've never worn it. I've heard it's heavy, though. And very hot.

and loud.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Really?

::scratches head::

REALLY?!!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments A suit of armor would be clanky and loud. Kevlar, not so much.

What is Kevlar? Is that like bulletproof glass?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments From Wikipedia: Kevlar is the registered trademark for a light, strong para-aramid synthetic fiber, related to other aramids such as Nomex and Technora.

Currently, Kevlar has many applications, ranging from bicycle tires and racing sails to body armor because of its high strength-to-weight ratio—famously: "...5 times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis..."[2:]

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Ahhh... you mean like a knight's suit of armor. I was thinking of the kevlar body suit and helmet.

Sally, Kevlar is the protective material that's used in military and police uniforms - Kevlar body armor.

Sarah | 13814 comments My sister has hiking boots with kevlar laces. I don't know what the use of kevlar laces is if the rest of the boot isn't kevlar as well. I guess it means the laces won't break?

Her feet will be safe in case of a back country drive-by?

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments As long as they only hit the laces.
