I feel like I read an online interview with the Erins' and they confirmed that they were half-brothers.
The information doesn't really help anything, at all. If it was supposed to be something awesome they would have revealed it in the books, to maybe psyche-out Firestar before he had to battle him, or after his death they might have revealed it.
So I'm not really freaking out over it. It simply isn't important enough to be mentioned in anything, just hinted.
