I've discussed this in a forum on another site before. My observations and those of a few others point towards followers being the cause of Toot-toot's growth. Remember, in 'Changes' we learned that the Red Court grew in power until they were, for all practical purposes, gods. They did that by amassing followers. It seems to me that we are seeing a parallel with Toot-toot and his new love interest. Both had organized groups of faeries to serve as tiny armies. Both are larger than any of their faery subordinates. It would not at all surprise me if at the end of the series Toot and Lacuna replaced one or both of the faery courts. Perhaps Toot will be King of the Summer Court and Lacuna will be Queen of the Winter Court and they will raise children to serve in the places now occupied by the Ladies.
I think part of Toot growing has to do (for me) someone (Harry) treating him with respect. Giving him a purpose other than eating and flitting about. He has a mission and someone depends on him. If memory serves me correctly the little ones are pretty much ignored and found insignificant.
I think Toots growth is due to his use of authority/power. It kidna reminds me of the Gar in sword of truth where they bond with a mage, become smarter than the average critter and leaders within their group.
Is Toot-toot’s increase in size due to his actions, or the title and followers he has acquired doing Harry’s bidding?” It’s due to /Harry’s/ actions, mostly. Toot done hitched his star to Harry’s wagon. As a result, he’s taken actions he never would have taken on his own, some of which had major consequences. Toot has effectively become a much more powerful being than he was as an independent dewdrop faerie. The physical growth is a reflection of that fact. I mean, gosh, where do you think the Sidhe came from in the first place? :D[17]
I heard on reddit that there's a general theory to do with Harry's nicknaming of certain people. As Bob apparently puts it, when Harry gives someone/something a nickname he gives a piece of his soul to them. It happened with Lasciel when he started calling her Lash allowing her to become more compassionate etc. Maybe it's happening with Toot Toot and every time her goes up a "rank" to Major General he grows a bit due to added portions of Harry's soul. This is a GIANT leap but it could even be something to do with Harry being a starborn.
Uriel said names were important and got pissy with Harry for shortening his. Names have power in Butchers world.

I think Toot-toot's increase in size is linked to his ability to gather followers. He has linked himself to Harry and convinced others to do likewise. He established and leads the Za-Lord's Guard and was able to recruit a militia. I suggest his size reflects his ability to influence others. They give him some of their power by doing his bidding, thereby relinquishing small portions of their free will.
Jim Butcher has already said to the many who ask that toot is growing in both size, power and sentience because of his relationship with Harry. If things keep going he will become a full fledged Sidhe.

Its exactly as Lndavidson has printed out the interview for you. So WORD OF GOD.
It has to do with Toot deciding to give allegiance to Harry, and Harry accepting it.
The only person to profit from a nick name is Lash, as she had no separate name from Lasciel.
Toot has a True Name, which is not TootToot. We are told this already, and his True Name does not change. And Jim Butcher would not lie to us and tell us that Toot's power comes from him "hitching his star to Harry's wagon" if it were not so.

Remember, in 'Changes' we learned tha..."I think you just found the piece I was missing when discussing the mothers. I speculated on a yet unseen power in the Wyldfae. To complete three sets of three, so the mothers could be a personification of the three as one, one as three goddess. I really like this, and showing how the red king and the lords of outer night gained power from belief is huge. (And how Odin had lost some, as belief waned. )
And as far as taking canon from interviews ... I tend not to. Unless and until it is in a book, it isn't concrete. (Butcher hasn't specifically done anything to make me think it of him, but many many authors and producers have stated or denied things in interviews, and later the books didn't bear it out. Like Lost's (view spoiler)
I don't think that Butcher is going to say something in an interview thats is an out and out lie. Lost is a tv series, and written by many people, not to mention that they were themselves confused, like the X files. Butcher has already plotted out everything, and what he said in the interview is pretty straight forward. Besides Toot is NO LONGER WILDFAE. He is now WINTER. because Harry is winter, that has been totally confirmed in "Cold Days".
He has grown in size between every book. He did not suddenly grow after completing three actions.
Also, the Mothers Winter can not be three in one, as there are two of them.
do you expect Harry to remain winter forever? With that bit about dropping masks and mantles in Cold Days? Oh, and I didn't mean to imply toot completed anything to grow, himself, harrys actions have helped toot amass followers. The three would have been three sets, as in Summer / Winter / Wild. Wildfae has shown us two big players, but not a third... yet.

Also the fact that he previously used all natural ingredients(honey, homemade bread) to summon him.
Then I remembered that in Book 1 Toot is already already addicted to Pizza.
Remember Lacuna said pizza was very bad for them and was angry with Harry for giving Toot-Toot that? Is she just a health nut? What's so bad about pizza? Also, I think Toot-Toot is growing big because of his followers and his allegiance to Harry. A full-size Toot-Toot would be awesome but if he stays on the small side, that's ok with me.

If i remember right, She said eating all thay pizza without regards for any "protection", or without taking any "protection". Then wanted to dual them because of it. It was the use of "protection" in this situation that made me think that it could actually have something to do with the pizza.
Dont mind me, just going nuts in anticipation. I might have Charity as being a Denarian next week....

Charity as a Denarian? OMGosh. That's terrifying.
I had thought perhaps that it was due to all the pizza that Harry was feeding him that he was growing, but I've refined my theory to thinking perhaps the more responsibility Toot assumes the larger and nominally more mature he has become. Now that he has an added love interest I'm thinking Toot is going to want to prove himself more than ever, hence more responsibility, hence the taller and more mature he will grow.
My end game in this thought process is this, will Harry someday have a full sized Za-Lord Fae Army? Or, if not that, at the very least, a formidable ally in a fully realized Toot? (haha)
