Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Hello everyone! I know some of us tend to lurk more than post between the times for our monthly book lists, (and that is perfectly acceptable) ... this month in particular seems to be slower and I miss chatting with you all as often during the slumps.
Life happens and having a good balance of time on and offline is important, so simply hope all of you are enjoying some really good books to discuss at month end! Isn't it hard to imagine we are just a few weeks away from Thanksgiving.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Goodreads tells me I am on track for my year end goal of 75 books with 59 read to date, I am not sure that I will stay on track though as this is a slower month for me with the start of hockey season and budgets at work. Her's hoping for some more stellar books to complete the year, I have some great ones lined up.

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments I'm at 121/130. Nothing stellar so far this month and a bit behind in my count. Was back visiting my folks from the 9th thru the 15th, so no reading while I was gone. My dad wasn't doing so good when we left, but is feeling much better according to my mom.

BarryP (barrypz) | 3498 comments I am at 42,800 pages against a goal of 42,000. It is all gravy from here.

Does that mean you have to start at the end of the book and read backward for the rest of the year?

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments I am at exactly zero books read in October, several listened to. Baseball and football viewing have eaten into my already low reading count. I guess I can't complain about the Sox being in the playoffs, but there is one down side.

message 7: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Carol - nor can I complain about missing reading time with home hockey games. Your Red Sox in the playoffs trumps reading! I'll squeeze in a few pages in my Kindle app during period breaks but not much else when hockey is going on. I haven't watched as much playoff baseball this year (yet) but look forward to the final matchup. We have less home games over the next couple of weeks.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9483 comments Yes, this also explains my absence from the GR boards. Decided to check in during the hour or so before tonight's (I hope) final ALCS game. I used to be able to multitask on the laptop while I watch the games but my iPad games have taken over. Love my Words with Friends and the various hidden object games. Blame Sherry for getting me hooked on the latter, LOL.

Merrilee in AZ | 1121 comments I'm in CA visiting the grand kids before the next surgery. We will spend a few days in Vegas on the way home. I finished the new Dexter book, another one I WANTED TO THROW ACROSS THE ROOM. I'm done with this series.

I did read the new Deaver. (starts and the end and goes backward in time)

LOL, carol. blame my sister for those hidden object games- they are horribly addicting, aren't they?
i've been MIA a little bit too- work is definitely cramping my style. last weekend we went to maine to visit my nephew, his wife, and their brand new baby. so sweet! this weekend, it was montpelier, vermont to see our son. too much driving for me! i've read 68 books for far - i think that's about average for me. like carol, if i could get off the ipad i'd be reading more :)

message 12: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 1490 comments I've read 118 books so far in 2013, but I'm having a really hard time writing any reviews at all because of classwork. I've been writing the same review for two months one sentence at a time. I finished it a couple of days ago early in the morning and was too exhausted to deal with posting it to my blog, Net Galley, Goodreads and Booklikes.

LizH (liz_h) | 955 comments Glad to hear I am not the only one in a slump.i am a big sports fan, so with college football, the nfl, hockey, and baseball that doesn't leave a lot of room for reading. Plus I am thoroughly addicted to The Voice and must watch that every Monday and Tuesday. It is very unusual for me, as I don't watch much tv, and hate reality shows. Also with all the talk of audio books, I have tried an audio book. I have a steadfast rule that I never re-read books, but Outlander is one of my all time favorites and I got it free on Audible to join. Starz is making a 16 episode series of the book, and from all accounts they are sticking as closely to the book as possible. So I wanted to remind myself of all the special moments in Outlander. I just am having a hard time finding time to listen to it. I work about 5 minutes from my house, and when I listen at night, I tend to fall asleep, lol!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments As long as we are reading! I find myself writing shorter blurbs for most of the books I am reading myself. I do try to write at least a descriptive sentence or two, but the longer ones I used to write are fewer and further apart.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Barry: hmmm, sounds interesting, how could he employ his trademark twists and turns, and then another twist!?

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Merrilee: Dexter is one series where I switched to the TV show instead of the books early on. And don't get me started on the ending to the TV series for Dexter.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16927 comments Liz: You are too busy to read! Remind us when the Starz series is starting, I'll look forward to catching it. I'll admit to not finishing the first book yet, but I do plan to. :)

BarryP (barrypz) | 3498 comments Funny about the Deaver, to give it the twists, he has to inject them on the first few chapters, which are the last ones you read. If you started at the back and went forward, the book would make sense, but not have any twists or suspense.

Yes, me too Ann. I'm lucky if I keep up enough to capture them all in a list, and try to write something quick before I forget what it was about. You will notice that I'm including fewer character names in my blurbs, as by the time I've gotten to the writing (oh who am I kidding, but the time I've started the next book!) I've forgotten the main characters' names.

Huh?

Donnajo | 4353 comments same as always the going back and forth from the shore. I did have a weekend here and there that I was home. last weekend I was home and this past weekend I was there just got home at alittle after 12 today. even got in a walk at the shore before leaving then another one when I got home. got some deck reading, alot of walks (did the making strides breast cancer walk yesterday where we got a few new tote bags that was given out or pens, emery boards, and a bunch of other stuff, with my free gift voucher the girl in change down there (she must thing I'm a team leader because I always get a invite to the breakfast they have months before and a thick pamplet this time it had a gift voucher) it was $5 off any product at the product tent so got a $10 ereader case for $5 and also bought a new baseball cap since the one I got a few years ago is a heavier material than the one they sold this year) it makes you feel good doing it. I'll have some pictures up on fb at some point this week. they even had a pink car which I took the picture off.
As for book counts I can't complain I'm past my goal for the year which was 150 books which I never have been able to do in the past. so I'm around 175 books finished so far this year and I'll probably push towards 200 if not that is okay. 8 books finished so far this month. if I ever get offline I hope to finish at least one today. been doing some arcs for review lately.
I still haven't heard anything from the bookstore at the shore about the winners. so I'm still hoping to have won something. I will report when I hear anything.
besides my monday night DWTS and castle, thursday night grey's and sunday night revenge I really haven't been watching much of anything. I did watch the 1st of hostages and one other show that was new but I did it online and haven't watched it since even though I liked it. Lately it's been no tv on and just reading. which is alot different than I used to do having the tv on every night.
