Yes, the actor is good and thankfully quite large.

Christine Indorf | 1814 comments Watching Pieces of Her on Netflix. Its a Karen Slaughter book that I have read. The beginning followed the book but now its straying off. Still I am really enjoying it. I am on episode 5 and look forward to finishing the series tonight. Hope it ends well!!

Watched

4 episodes.

Our House

Very good, but could have been a bigger more twisting ending

message 958: by Anja (new)

Anja Henriksen | 3 comments I'm watching pieces of her now too...only the last episode left. I was optimistic after the first episode...it turned down in the Abyss quickly. I'm sorry to say, it's one of the worst adaptations I've seen for long.
lazy and terrible writing and equally terrible instruction, and cutting.
on top of that it's also incredible slow paced in in the wrong way. I love a great slow burn, this isn't a slow burn in my opinion, it's just slow bore. a lot of unnecessary nothingness with the actual plot being paying the price for it.
sorry for my rant, but this series is just inexcusable bad.
I liked the book, but didn't think it was among Slaughter's best...but I do actually like the book much more now, so I guess that's a positive thing coming from the series.

Watched and really enjoyed a documentary film called

The Battle of Alcatraz

Never knew it happened in 1946.

message 961: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1469 comments As much as I’m embarrassed to admit it my favourite series at moment is Virgin River by Robyn Carr. It’s good to read an episode in between crime, thrillers etc. sometimes I like to escape to a world where good exists

message 962: by Gloria ~ (new)

Gloria ~ mzglorybe (mzglorybe) | 18 comments OMGosh, I love Virgin River too. Fell in love with all the characters and you’re right. It is a nice change from crime, dark mysteries, and ugly topics. This is a breath of fresh air with relatable characters and no foul language or graphic sexual scenes. Can’t wait for next season. I have a grown son and his wife living in Tasmania. I’m in Southern California USA. I’ve requested to friend you and will follow your reviews.

Sarah | 1469 comments Hi Gloria

My son and his girlfriend went to Tasmania over Christmas/New year and loved it. In fact Tasmania has been very popular with so many people I know since the state borders I opened. It certainly sounds like a beautiful place

Virgin River is good to watch. Don't think I could read the books though. Pieces Of Her I read a while ago and then binged watched a couple of days ago. I couldn't remember anything except that first scene even after reading my review. I was waiting for things to come back but they never did. Too many episodes and a ridiculous storyline.

Didn't think much of that either, Sean! Didn't like the ending!

message 967: by Barbara (new)

Barbara One of my favorite series of the past decade was TURN: Washington's Spies. It was based on a non-fiction work, and you could tell they didn't have a massive budget, but it worked - every episode ended on a sort of cliff-hanger. I think it's available on Netflix now.
Was looking forward to "Reacher" but I didn't like it - like the books (at least the first 10 or so, the recent ones have been a let-down) and I even liked the first Tom Cruise movie, but the series just fell flat for me.
Saw the first episode of Tokyo Vice, a Michael Mann (Miami Vice) production based on a memoir of an American journalist who worked in Tokyo in the 90s. Looked pretty good, so I think I'll stick with it. Stars the actor who played Tony in the recent "West Side Story."

Kirsten (kmcripn) So excited to see the first episode of Annika with Nicola Walker last night. As a fan of BBC Radio 4, I have loved the radio program and was so excited when they FINALLY made a tv show of it! I'll bet they had tons of requests.

Though I think many Americans had to put their subtitles on judging by some of the Scottish accents. A couple of them are really thick. (But I made it all the way through with putting on my subtitles!)

Also looking forward to The Gray Man.

message 1000: by Barbara (new)

Barbara I tried the Terminal List, but just don't like it. It looks like every other action/military/gov't conspiracy movie or tv series. Just nothing about it seems new.

I watched Ted Lasso, first season and almost all of the second season, but I thought S2 was really bad. It reminded me of this series called "Wayward Pines" from years back - it was a summer replacement, just meant to be a one off, but it got popular and they had to dream up a second season and it stunk.

Endeavour - Last season of the series and it was no better than okay. A shame because at its peak, this was probably one of the best series on TV.
