Emails like that garner titles that you've recently looked at in your Amazon account. So if you've looked at your book, you'll get your book back to you in an email recommendation. It's not going to others, unless they've already seen your book page.
It makes me laugh every time I get one.
Ah, that explains it then. Well, that's disappointing. I joined Kindle Select and had over 400 free copies go out - with not one single review in response. Thanks for the clarification Judy. Have yourself a great day.

The problem with free copies is people give them a low priority to read, so often they languish for months on Kindles. So you might have a large number of downloads but won't generate any reviews. There are a number of GR groups where authors can offer copies of their books in return for reviews, have a look around for one that fits.
Thanks A.W. I'll keep trying here. I've posted on some groups with no takers. Maybe a non-fiction book on photography just isn't interesting. :-) I have also sent copies to a few Goodreads folks but only a couple have actually done reviews...albeit nice, honest reviews that are really appreciated.

Photo books are a niche type of sales. You need to advertise it where other photography work is talked about and displayed.
I've seen my book advertised to me in various places on the web. Thought it was cool till I figured out how they target ads. Duh.
It truly is all about the marketing/publicity platform. Develope that "spot" where your market congregates and then your true fans will come to the surface.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate you all taking the time to respond here. Always a pleasure to be supported. :-)...and to know you are not the only one who was mistaken in an interpretation of an ad.

I think it does go to others as I've had friends tell me they've had Amazon recommendations for one of my books.

I haven't checked but I think it is probably similar to the recommendations you get when you login to Amazon.

On a positive note, it has been fun to watch as the things I am doing appear to have some effect on the positioning of the book. I'm hoping to learn a lot more before the launch of my novel in November. Any ideas you may have regarding getting visibility is appreciated.
I know, patience, patience. :-)
