Cookie (bookcupidity) | 29 comments Does anyone know if I can rate a book without doing a review on BL?

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before or if I'm monumentally stupid and just can't see how to do it.

When I add a book to my shelf there, it has a 'rating' function there, but it doesn't work for me.

Is really the only way to rate by writing a review?

Yes. Search for the book (don't try to link it to a post). When the book appears, select it, then click Add to Bookshelf (in green). Select "read", and post your rating.

Cookie (bookcupidity) | 29 comments Yeah, that's what doesn't work for me.
The stars won't 'highlight' or whatever. I thought, at first, it was just a glitch but I literally have never been able to do it.

I guess it's just me? I'll have to contact BL if it is.

Also, I just found a work around by "table viewing" and entire bookshelf and choosing the rating there.

Sorry :( hope you can get help from BL.

Thanks Jennifer - they've been responsive to my other questions, so I'm sure they'll figure it out!

I've had this problem.

You just need to go to your shelf and find that book there. Click on it and rate it.

When I do it there it always lets me rate them.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments Yeah, that's the step that fails for me on Firefox: rating. I have to use IE. (I've told them what I can, but I bet more info from other sufferers would help pin it down.)

ℸℎℯrℯᏕα (wwg1wga) | 2 comments What browser are you using?

I'm unable to select any of the star rating using Mozilla Firefox. I have to use Opera in order to select the stars.

Even if you're on the shelf page?

P.S. Sorry if I'm being dense here..

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 231 comments Yep. Fails even on the Shelf page, if I'm using Firefox.

Works fine with IE.

Chrissie This is strange. I use Firefox; if I find a book through search at the top of the shelf page, and then click on read, I CAN give it a star rating! I guess I am very lucky,!

Internet Explorer. Scary words.

I also use Firefox. Stars usually work for me.

Perhaps some kind of Firefox extension or an add-on is interfering. That has happened to me before. Not on Booklikes but on other sites.

Booklikes really needs a bug report page. Right now it's difficult to see what the problem is since it varies from person to person so much.

How about starting a thread in the new official BokkLikes group? Not just as a post, or several posts, in the feedback thread for new features (that thread is quickly ballooning as it is anyway), but as a new thread entitled "Bug Reports" or something of the like?

Petra X (petra-x) I had requested that Dawid have a bug report discussion and also another one for help, as we do here, people or admin answer. I didn't want to do it because I don't want to mod something that might need quite a bit of work as this is my busy time of year.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) (themis-athena) | 209 comments Yes, I saw that request you made, Petra -- I don't think this is necessarily something that BookLikes needs to initiate, though, is it? Ideally they'd create a separate "Bug Reports" section, of course, but for the time being, I think anybody can start a discussion THREAD and just call it "bug reports" -- better than having genuine bug reports on existing features just vanish into the mass of posts already accumulating on the "feature request" thread intended for NEW features ...

Petra X (petra-x) You do it then Ms T-A!

It is difficult to pinpoint the problem.

I use both Firefox and IE (one at work/one at home) and neither work from the book page, but both work from the shelf page for me. But, at least in my experience, it's consistently not working.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) (themis-athena) | 209 comments Petra smells something fishy round here wrote: "You do it then Ms T-A!"

I did: http://booklikes.com/thread/176/bug-r...

(Had already blogged about it on BL, anyway -- as I saw you did as well.)

Petra X (petra-x) All this cross-posting... But I don't see the need to have to decide on one site.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) (themis-athena) | 209 comments No, I think we even have to go on doing it for the time being. This group is still an extremely important resource for many of us, even if we're mostly active on BL now, and even if we have groups there now. That site is clearly still a work in progress ... on all of its angles.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I agree - I like having this group here as a resource while everything at BL is still in flux. :)
