10 per section seems to be a lot. Most of the other clubs I'm in do 6 or 7. I think it depends on how many voters we have at all.
If 30 people are voting then we're always in danger of having a lot of books with 2-4 votes. If we have 100+ people voting, then it shouldn't matter.

I think we'll see how 10 go for this month and then adapt it if it needs adapting next month :) I agree with Rinn, it is a bit trial and error but that's ok!
We'll see how it goes with ten nominations per month (in terms of votes, we want to make sure the winner is getting the majority, not winning by a small margin), so it may shrink down to eight or so.

The votes for Sci-fi this month are pretty split, so we'll try eight nominations per genre next month.
And if you look at the number of votes, 15 people voted for SF, 18 for Fantasy. These are less than 2 possible votes per book.
Yup - last month we had about 35 people voting per book I believe. There's still 6 days to go on the poll (or maybe 5) so we shall see =D

That is a good point, but on the other hand, less people will get to nominate books. Also remember that we're putting through last months runners up too, or maybe we could not do that any more? if someone wants to read it they could nominate it again maybe?

Hmm, I think it's best to ignore the last month runners up now, so more people can nominate. Say they can be nominated again, but in TWO months time so they're not back in the poll straight away.
We'll try with eight this month, see how it goes, and lower it again if we have to. When I send the message out about voting, I'll emphasise that it's eight max so first come first served sort of thing, and hopefully that means whoever wants to nominate something will nominate it.

Well due to life I am often only just seeing the nominations in time, so I don't mind if I don't always get my votes, there are plenty of people with interesting things to vote for :)

Yeah, who invented this life-thing anyway. :P

- each person may only nominate ONE book, either fantasy or sci-fi
- nominations are open until the 18th of each month (and begin on 11th), or until each genre has ten nominations - whichever comes first
How does that sound? It should prevent us from having too many books to choose from. Or do you think it should be less than ten per? I've said ten for now, since November's sci-fi nominations currently total nine.
