I know, I know, almost all of us read mainly, if not exclusively ebooks, which don’t need any external bookmark – another of their merit!
But I still like to have bookmarks around the house: I buy them when I go to art exhibitions, I love when friends bring them from a holiday or strange places; and in the “paper books” I still read I use also postcards, notes, pictures by friends and children and so on.
I was thinking therefore to organize a “Christmas Swap” of bookmarks in here.
I know that Christmas is still far away, but since we’re scattered all over the world I think that to start “in time” will make it possible for all of us to receive his/her present in time to have it under the Christmas tree.
The idea is simple enough: all who are interested will “sing up” in here. We keep it open I think for about a month three weeks. When everyone who’s interested has written down his or her name we’ll organize a sort of circle: the first will send a bookmark to the second, the second to the third, and so on till the last one will send it to the first.
The bookmark will be as you like them: you can do it yourself using your creativity – lucky those who have got it!!! - , buy it in your town of in a town of your country or from a place you’ve visited and particularly liked ….
The address will be asked privately by message.
What do you think? Is anyone interested?
I’ll be the first!!!!
LauraT

I love this idea! My collection of bookmarks is very small but I like them a lot.

I buy books almost only in second hand bookshops and I like it when I find in the pages a bookmark. I have found often postcards or very old invoices (of course I don't pay them!). I like also when I find a love dedication and I wonder if these two persons still love each other.

I love this idea. I think my bookmark will be something that describes me and where I come from.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Could we make our bookmarks on the computer and send it to the person by email? That way they can be able to print the bookmark out. That's the only way I could do it. Great idea though. I wish I could do that with the friends I do christmas cards with as I collect bookmarks too. I collect ones at book signings and at the library.

Petra | 3324 comments Sounds like fun. I really enjoy bookmarks (sending & receiving). I'll join up.

This is a festive idea, Laura.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) So when are you guys doing the bookmark exchange? I was just curious. Since I'll be doing mine via email, I think I'm going to go ahead and make mine and send them off between black Friday and after since emails are faster than regular mail. That way I can have plenty of time to plan and make some good ones to give to some of my book club buddies as a Christmas present. I also may do this with my friends I do Christmas cards with too.

LauraT (laurata) | 14356 comments Mod
I was thinking of something under the Xmas tree: so for those who are sending emails it could be a nice thing to make it by what we call "Immacolata conceione" - the 8th of december.
I was planning of sending mine if abroad by the end of november, to give it plenty of time to get where it has to!!!!
Any other interested?

message 19: by Charbel (new)

Charbel (queez) | 2729 comments I could do it by post or by email, whichever is preferable.

message 20: by LauraT (new)

LauraT (laurata) | 14356 comments Mod
You may ask it to the one who's going to receive your gift!
Mine will be by post: I'm helpless with design!!!

message 21: by Amber (last edited Oct 16, 2013 12:46PM) (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Okay cool. well, let me know if anyone wants one from me by email and I'll make and send you yours by the 8th of December. I am making them via Microsoft paint and will email them to you. just let me know and if you want my email so you can send me one, just pm me. already did two practice ones, a Christmas one, and one of roses with a butterfly.

Shirley | 4177 comments Heather wrote: "I don't have a printer either so would prefer post. I also can't design"

I can't either, I'm going to the tourist information centre to get mine, I think.

message 27: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) If you can't print the bookmarks out at home, you can do it at a library because they have printers that work there. That's the only way I can send bookmarks that I will make to you guys is by email as I can only share my postal mailing address with friends and family I know and have met. So if you want one, please pm me your email address. Thanks.

Ooh, do you mean the end of October? I won't be able to send one until the end of November. Is that too late?

message 35: by LauraT (new)

LauraT (laurata) | 14356 comments Mod
No no Gill: the end of october was a sort of "starting date"!!!! Don't worry, by the end of november I think there will be plenty of time to get to its destination before Christmas!!!!

Libraries in my city only print in black and white which wouldn't be much fun with bookmarks. :(

message 46: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Okay, Amber #2. That's why I said for anyone that wants to get one from me by email that can print them out can contact me about it. You don't have to though. I'm planning on doing bookmarks with my Christmas card friends I got postal addresses for anyway.

How are you going to work who is going to send to whom? Will you work it out by the person's location?

message 49: by LauraT (new)

I was thinking of a random system: it would be too complicated to divide it people according to the'r living address. That's why I wanted to do it not later than half november: to give time to letters to cross the world!

message 50: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Hall | 138 comments I'll join.

If it's not too much to ask, I'd prefer it if my partner lives in Great Britain.

Oh and I'd rather receive my bookmark through the post if that is alright with everyone.
