Robin Willson This story takes place within the context of Veiled Rose as Leonard the Jester is traveling by ship to Lunthea Maly. Although Leonard is a central character, the story is mostly about little Munny on his first voyage away from home to the western reaches of the great Continent. The Goddess Risafeth demands a tithe for the journey on the waters beyond Chiara Bay, and Leonard, as a stowaway, is considered the payment of that tithe by the crew of the ship. The Captain, after talking with our beloved Jester, decides to grant Leonard a safe journey – and thus begins the struggle of the entire crew of the Kulap Kanya.
There is always something new to learn of the territory in the Goldstone Wood tales, and this is one of the most intense short stories I’ve ever read. The tale is about a very dangerous and turbulent voyage, and the strength and true nature of the characters as they deal with this journey. In the spirit of The Hobbit or The Witch And The Wardrobe, it’s a story of growing up, encounters with right and wrong, and how Munny learns about himself and life. There is a haven of calm within the love that he is shown, amidst the turbulence and choices that Munny must make for himself.
As usual with the works of Anne Elizabeth Stengl, the reader is engaged from the beginning of the story to the end, and it’s difficult to put down. Not essential to the story of the Veiled Rose, it’s a very interesting and entertaining read and stands on its own.

Jenelle It definitely makes me want to know more about the culture of Noorhitam... and who Risafeth is... and lots of unanswered questions about the Captain! I'm hoping that Anne Elisabeth revisits this end of the world in further stories!

:)

Emily Personally, I loved it! (I received a preview copy to review.) The scene where everything is going wrong, but one character refuses to back down! I thought it was more a tale of courage than of love, but love plays a role as well, as in all of Anne Elisabeth's books. I definitely recommend it!

J.M. Jenelle, don't worry--book 7 is set in Noorhitam, and you will see much more of Captain Sunan. :-) He is one of my favorite characters in the series. I love the illustration of him in Goddess Tithe!
