Judith-Victoria Douglas (jvdouglas) For my book Ariel's Cottage could you please not list the flower cover as a book, but as another, outdated, no longer available, cover?
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
This is the current book with the correct cover:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
The other editions, Large Print and Kindle, with a different title, A Price for Love, also has an outdated, no longer available flowery cover. It needs to be listed as another cover also. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
This is the current book with the correct cover:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
This brings up the issue of these two books/stories being the same and should be listed, one for the other, as different issues of the same story. Also their reviews should appear on both pages as it IS the same story. I AM the Author.

Marisa (marisasorenson) | 558 comments They are all already combined, meaning any reviews appear on all of the books' pages. You can set the default edition (the one you want displayed on your profile). Here's how: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...

Judith-Victoria Douglas (jvdouglas) For Ariel's Cottage and A Price of Love, both old cover and new cover editions, they are not combined because the only one listed now, in the few minutes since my request, is the one I DON'T want up there. All the others are gone. There is no option that I can find on its page for other editions, and I'd have to delete this cover and upload the others AGAIN, to fix this. However, as I expected from you great guys, it's now screwed, because I can't do that, as you as say, being the author. It gives me a message that I can't and only librarians can. Another bad experience on GR. Thanks. Can you fix this now? And get it right this time. I have reviewers reading it at this moment and I'd like the correct book to show and all the reviews for the story to post on its page, with other editions available listed. Yeah, I'm upset, again. Nothing except exactly what I expect. Well, you came through on that, at least. fyi: Only librarians have permission to delete the cover for this book. This appears in pink.

Z-squared | 8575 comments Judith, you already posted a request to fix this in another thread:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

...where I responded, asked for more info, and let you know I was working on it. Posting in multiple threads just makes it more likely for librarians to mess this up.

I have combed through every book in your collection, deleted duplicate entries, combined editions, updated information (including several ISBNs that were wrong and wouldn't allow click through to Amazon), and added kindle editions where appropriate.

I am now untangling the mess that is Ariel's Cottage/A Price of Love. I have combined all of them together, so now all reviews will be visible from any edition chosen. However, we will not delete old or out-of-print editions. That is against GR policy for a variety of reasons. What we can do is create alternate cover editions, which I am in the process of doing now. Afterwards, you as the author will be able to set the default edition. This will determine which version shows up on your author page and in search results.

Moreover, nothing has been deleted, all the old editions and new editions are still there. They have been COMBINED. See this photo: https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...
See the small thumbnails under the book description circled in red? All your editions are present. Give me a few minutes to sort through them all, make sure the associated info is correct and consistent with GR policies. It would help if you looked through them and told me which ones are new covers and which ones aren't. The flower cover is old, correct? After I'm done, you will be able to set the default edition. See instructions for that here: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...

Judith-Victoria Douglas (jvdouglas) I thought I was making two requests for two different things. I mentioned to you without explanation. Sorry if it caused a problem.
Yes, the flower covers are no longer in available for my POD books. I would like the Ariel's Cottage cover to be up front and visible, and the others as "Other editions". Is there a way to note the unavailable covers?
And thanks for sorting it all out.
Judith

Z-squared | 8575 comments All A Price of Love/Ariel's Cottage editions have been updated to conform with GR standards. I have incorporated as much info from Amazon as I could. You might want to check each entry and make sure things like dates, large print editions, etc. are accurate. There were a number of books that had mismatched or invalid ISBN/ISBN13 numbers. Those have all been fixed, and users should now be able to click through to Amazon where appropriate. Feel free to set the default edition now.

The problem is your other request contained links that didn't work. So I combed through ALL your books and immediately noticed A Price of Love/Ariel's Cottage needed help. Someone brighter than me would probably have figured out right away which duplicate books you were referring to, but I couldn't deconvolute what you meant. As it turned out, one of the A Price of Love/Ariel's Cottage listings was also a dupe that needed to be merged/deleted, so you can see how the whole thing went pear-shaped fast...

I have spent the better part of the last 1.5 hours making your author page is as accurate and complete as possible. I and the other librarians do this for free. I hope you will remember our efforts next time you have a problem on Goodreads you need help resolving.

Oh -- and here is a series I created for you: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1140...

Let us know if the titles are OK.

PS -- Since a LOT of changes have just been made to your profile, don't be surprised if things look wonky for a day or two. You might see thumbnails of books that have been deleted, the new series not appearing right away on your author page, etc. The database needs a little time to allow all the changes to roll through.

Judith-Victoria Douglas (jvdouglas) Okay, Z, I've gone in and can't find what I want so guess I have to let the system do it's stuff. I've added stuff because I can't find my #1 cover, only #2 and the expired one. Hope my reviewers can find one of the books to put their reviews since they are now merged.
There should only be 3 alternate covers at the bottom of the one primary cover once I can set that, according to the picture you sent. Can't find it, only the old one comes up. Will fix what I can until later.
Thanks for the help. And the ISBNs should have been right from my entry, but you wouldn't believe the trouble I've had with librarian trolls messing with my stuff and putting my books on negative listings and shelves (like Avoid the Author for my children's book, Tree & Sky), and removing cover pictures, deleting books so I put them back up and adding so-called quotes from one of my books that wasn't anything I wrote. That's where I'm coming from when I get upset with anything not done like I know it should be with MY books.
Thanks again. Will get back with you on this feed, I guess, if I find I can't get something straight.

Z-squared | 8575 comments Judith,

Links would be really, really helpful. At the moment, I'm having trouble parsing what the problem is. So let me try to figure this out. This is the primary edition at the moment:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

That is what shows up on your author page. That is what users see when they search for "A Price for Love" on Goodreads. That cover is also what's currently available on Amazon. I'm not sure what the problem is. Can you clarify?

EDIT: I see you've added this note to one of your book descriptions: "This is the alternate cover for Ariel's Cottage, the PRIMARY book, and in Large Print and Kindle Only." Does that mean you'd rather have this one as your primary edition?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

If so, follow these instructions:

1) Navigate to the book's page. Be sure you have selected the edition you wish to become the default (primary) edition.

2) Click "edit details" below the book's description.

3) On the right side of the page, click "Set this book as the primary edition for this work". It's about midway down the page.

Only Goodreads Authors can set the default edition at this time.

Judith-Victoria Douglas (jvdouglas) Okay, got the Ariel's Cottage edition as primary as I wished. Thank you. I couldn't get it to come up at all.
If you want to heard a story to clarify the problem, and all the harassment I've had on this site, here's (first) how I got two books and 4 covers.
I published the book and kindle as A Price for Love: Ariel's Cottage, with the wisteria-like flowers on the cover, without an LCCN. I wanted to get that LCCN and the only way was to change the cover and title. I switched the title and subtitle, gave it a wisteria picture I took similar to the original on the same cover format, and made the font smaller. I had two books: A Price for Love: Ariel's Cottage as a Large Print and Kindle and a regular print book (thus a little thinner and lighter) as Ariel's Cottage.
I got tried of the covers, especially because the format was so widely used - there's even a listopedia list for books with that type cover.
I changed the covers, using the one the original almost-publisher and I decided on and she gave me to use when she dropped the book. In order to distinguish the books I put the cottage pix on Ariel's Cottage with a little pix for the other cover pix on the back, and the other pix with the snapshots and badges on A Price for Love with a small pix of the cottage on the back, dropping the subtitles on both.
Thus, two old covers; two new covers on two currently available books. I want to promote the book mostly, but the Kindle is what has been given away - 254 recently from Amazon, which I hope will generate some honest reviews. There have been good ones so far, except from a couple of trolls.
I'd given it away before on GR under the first title, but took it off when I quickly vacated due to trolling that began and I didn't want to spread. Checking I found it was put back up after I left, and is still up, but I don't want to give it away any more (for the downloads on GR I got no reviews) and can't remember how to get it down. Several who have it on their to-read lists have, hopefully, already downloaded the PDF I posted.
Outside of having my original four books still on negative book lists and shelves, or new ones the trolls have created for their groupies, I will have this site in order except for removal of that PDF. Then I will be a normal posing-my-new-books author, read and review a few and get new friends and followers and following a few. I don't respond to trolls. I make a point of following reviews on all those who have been guilty of trying to start something against me, and have my books on their lists and shelves still.
I just read a blog on GR about the lists and shelves being totally removed, but not all of them on my site have been. There's one review that says it sounds like a screenplay. Well, no screenplay, for anyone who's really read the book or a screenplay, is as long as my book. It's the same one here we've been talking about and straightening out and those librarian trolls are very likely the ones who put in the wrong ISBNs and any other thing that was messed up and you had to fix.
Believe me, I truly appreciate your efforts and time. I certainly would have preferred to be working on my new book than all this nonsense on GR. It's proof to me they were troublemakers and not true reviewers or anyone who wanted to help. One still is a librarian who started this mess and has a real prejudice against indie authors, and hits the romance field first.
I have a copy saved of the phony quote that was posted, along with a picture and screen name for the perpetuator, if anyone wants to know. When I made a comment about it obviously not being of the same quality as my other quotes added, that person and the quote disappeared. Good thing I saved first. I also followed a link back from my blog site found on my stats page to a private GR group for the watchdogs of the badly behaving authors list. It had a non-verbal message - a vulgar hand gesture aimed at the screen, and a disgusting facial expression. Wish I'd kept that link. It was during the week I was doing some promoting and I didn't have a single viewing to show in my stats. I figure they just blocked the recording of them. It hasn't exactly been fun to be on GR. I feel brave to be here now. And I only asked why my books were on the BBA list and it was because it was spam to promote my own books by listing them. My job as an author, especially an indie, is to promote my books.
I have a suggestion about what should be allowed here, based on my circumstance and experience, but will pass that on in good time. First, get every straight.
Thanks again.
Judith

Kealohilani Kealohilani (halfheartslove) | 2 comments My book, Romeo Killed Juliet just got a new cover. Since goodreads only allows me to create new editions, I did so.

But can you please make the high heel cover show as the "main edition" or whatever it is called so that it is the first one people see when they search it?

There are people who own the book with the other two covers, so it is fine for that to stay so that they can see it is the same book. I just really want the high heel cover to be the one that is seen first when people search.

Thank you.

Z-squared | 8575 comments Kealohilani,

That is one thing librarians can't do, only authors. TO set the default edition, follow these instructions:

1) Navigate to the book's page. Be sure you have selected the edition you wish to become the default (primary) edition.

2) Click "edit details" below the book's description.

3) On the right side of the page, click "Set this book as the primary edition for this work". It's about midway down the page.

Only Goodreads Authors can set the default edition at this time.
