Predict why the man on pg. 11 has a "sabre cut" on his face.
Explain background information about the time period this story takes place in.
Make an inference, why might this man have a plethora of gold and a large chest?
Why would this traveler want to stay in the least popular inn?

Hannah | 6 comments The man has a sabre cut because he might have been cut by a sword. The traveler wanted to stay in the least popular inn, maybe because he was hiding something.

Becca | 5 comments The man probably has a sabre cut either from a) an accident or b) a fight with someone.

The time period (like we said earlier) is most likely in the 1700s. One of the reasons why I think that is because pirates like what they described in the book really only existed then.

The man most-likely got the gold from another ship. It is most likely stolen.

He wants to stay at the least popular inn because he is most likely a wanted criminal.

That was a lot of writing... sorry .3.

Kayrin | 2 comments I believe the man is a wanted criminal/pirate and got the sabre cut from a fight with another pirate/enemy.
As we said during the meeting, the time period is during the 1700s, when pirates were common.
I agree with Becca ^ on this one. I believe the chest has gold and jewels inside and they were probably stolen from another pirate/enemy.
He wants to stay in the least popular inn because someone might be after him

Sienna | 4 comments I believe he is a pirate (an old fashioned one at that considering the story's background is most likely the 1700s) and he has a sabre cut on his face from fighting another pirate or someone who owned/wanted to claim the plethora of gold he has. He suspects someone is after him and wants to stay at the least popular hotel so no one, especially "sea faring men" because someone may try to take the gold away from him.

Carly Filiere | 1 comments I think this man is a pirate who goes on adventures and plunders towns. He probably got the saber cut from fighting other pirates for gold and other precious gems. He wants to lay low because he probably has made some enemies along the way and doesn't want to attract a lot of attention. Since this takes place in the 1700's officials might hang him because hes a pirate and that another reason he might want to lay low.

Vanessa Symonick | 11 comments I think he got a saber cut from trying to get a pile of treasure when a vicious animal attacked him. I think a pirate is a person who seeks treasure and fights crocodiles for treasure. I think this man might have a plethora of gold because he stole it from other pirates. I think he is nasty.

Sydney Dinsdale | 1 comments I think he has a cut from an accident or a fight with another man. Maybe it was someone from the sea. An enemy searching for the same thing.
