Ishbel Ok, so I the movie was 'meh...' As a movie. I kinda hated it as a book-to-film adaption. I blame the director.
But, despite the cheesy scenes and randomly placed moments (and there were a few...) the thing that was making me excited was when the Magnus scene came on. And ended. 3. Seconds. Later. WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT??!!! So, Magnus, the only character to be featured in ALL of cassie's books, Magnus, the only person who can unlock clary's mind, Magnus the best character ever(!!!) has TWO teensy little scenes??!! Emm... Not acceptable Mr. Zwart. Not. Accept. Able.
Also, you could hardly guess he had a thing for Alec. He mentioned it, as a side comment, precisely once. Let alone knowing that Alec was gay. If I hadn't read the book, I would have been lost. Completely lost. I blame the director.
Also, all the important bits with hodge and valentine, the whole clary-and-jace-are-siblings bit, was said in a kinda side comment-y way. I had to see the movie twice just to catch that bit. There was too much action and annoying music for you to hear hodge saying 'hey, valentine, tell clary and jace that they're siblings and stuff, then they will totally co-operate.' Or something like that.
There were a whole load of plot holes and awesome bits missing...
1. Simon's transmogrification into a rat.
2. RAPHAEL!
3. Renwick's
4. The actual JACE look that JCB just didn't have
5. HOW THE HELL THE SILENT BROTHERS GOT LIKE THAT!!
6. All the Magnus mojo
7. How Jocelyn was in the institute all along but no-one noticed her floating (above what looked like a morgue table) or seeing her being taken in by Blackwell and Pangborn.
8. The really awesome feel to the whole story that you will only ever find in the book
I blame the director.

But the bits that I thought 'oh, well done mr. zwart, just when I thought you couldn't screw any more details up...
WHY DOES CLARY STILL HAVE THE CUP????? Now, the director of the next movie is going to have to add in a bit where valentine somehow gets the cup from Clary and then has to get the sword without anyone seeing him. Well done, mr Zwart. You even left them WITHOUT A PORTAL!!! How are they going to get to Idris in COG now???
I blame the director.

Eri (musicspeaksforemotionsunsaid) | 123 comments First of all Cassandra picked JCB as Jace and i support her.
I agree with 1 2 3 6 and 7

Meagan | 59 comments I agree Isabel. There was sooooo much missing and I have no idea how Valentine is going to get the cup and sword unnoticed. I the next movie is meh I will be pleasantly surprised. I was so disappointed about the lack of Magnus-ness

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 120 comments If I were to lay blame, I would blame the editing (DUBBING GODFREY'S VOICE!!!! UGH!!!!) and direction here. IMO all of the actors were fabulous. Say what you will about JCB but IMO he was made for the role. Yes, I would have liked him to be more sassy in his lines rather than dark and brooding but he is an actor and in the end the end result here is that of the producers, director and editor. We all have in our minds what the perfect Jace would look like. That is human nature. For me physically Jamie did change quite a lot from what he was in Twilight, The Prisoner and Sweeney Todd to what he was in this film. To him I give him props. Not everyone can bulk up like Taylor Lautner and I think in Jamie's case he is naturally a lean type of person. He is handsome IMO and his personality is perfect for the Jace that is written in COB. However, I think that if there were any lines that were witty in the film may have been left on the cutting room floor.

Why there are some blaming Cassie for the film is weird to me because in the end she had nothing to do with production.

With the right circumstances you could make an entire series on Magnus alone. He's AWESOME!!!

Meagan | 59 comments I also think that he should have been more witty in his lines but he was still a good Jace.

Kyren | 32 comments I was really mad that they didn't develop Magnus more in the movie. He's one of my FAVORITE CHARACTERS!

Oh absolutely they could never have fit everything in. That would be impossible. In the end I think it was a very good film. Was it GREAT? No but I still loved it. I don't blame the director for the the movie's lack of box office money. That is on the studio's lack of promotion more than anything else.

Wht also really upset me was Simon. Simon is my favorite TMI character and I'm insanely in love with him, and I think Robert Sheehan looks EXACTLY like I imagined Simon, so exact I'm in awe... But when he was confessing his love for Clary to her I sorta wish he had said it differently. I mean thats ok though. What bothered me the most was that he didn't change into a rat, and that when they were being attacked by Dorothea the Greater Demon he came in with a shovel and did absolute nothing where in the book he shot the skylight with the arrow and killed the Greater Demon, saved Alec, and saved them all. I feel like Simon was slighted.

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 120 comments Simon was kind of slighted in COB. BUT that is why I'm hoping in COA (still praying for this to be made and made right) that they will give him more to do. In my mind they made him out to be weak in COB physically but eventually he will become stronger. The sad thing is if they don't make COA we won't get to see this happen. At least he didn't stand there and do nothing. Which IMO would have been worse.

When he tells Clary how he feels in the movie it was my absolute favorite scene in the entire film that did not involve action. Many say that their favorite is the greenhouse scene. For me it was this one. Robert nailed it!!! As an actor I can not wait to see where this guy goes.

Yes I did love the scene still. I adore Robert Sheehan. He's absolutely amazing and perfect for Simon.

message 13: by Abby (new)

Abby (huge_bookworm) | 118 comments absolutely and out of all the people who actually looked like their characters, for me it was Clary and Simon and Magnus, JCB was okay for Jace, he just didn't look/act enough like Jace for me to be pleased, where as the people who played Alec and Iz, i was thuroughly dissapointed. they didn't act anything like their characters but i give tem kouddos, they did look almost if not spot on for what i was thinking Alec and Iz should look like...

Yeah I agree

WHY WAS THERE NO RAPHAEL?! its the stupid dudes fault.

message 16: by Allison (new)

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 120 comments I think they wanted go give Raphael a bigger role and were/are saving him for COA if we get to see it that is...
